Golden Acrylic Gesso - 8 oz Jar

I love Golden Acrylics, and I've used them a long time. Easy to use, dries quickly, good thickness and overall coverage, maybe higher in price than cheaper brands but is exceptional in quality and value, made for professional artists to high standards. I know a lot about the company because the company is local to my area and frequently sent reps to the college art department when I was enrolled there. Buy with confidence from this company. It is well known that GOLDEN acrylic mediums are high quality products for both the new acrylic painting artist and established professionals.I had been using less expensive off-brand gesso to prep my canvas or substrate base before beginning my paintings. On a recent painting, the gesso was not holding the canvas well and became coming up in small micro pieces when I was dry brushing an area. My layers came off easily with the thin gesso showing through. I tell this to share why GOLDEN gesso is so much better and avoids these canvas and paint problems before a canvas is ruined by cheap gesso.I purchased this GOLDEN acrylic gesso primer and gave a new canvas two layers, giving a light sanding to each layer which is what GOLDEN recommends. And let me tell you - the difference between the GOLDEN product and the less expensive brands was so obvious.The final surface was very smooth with just a hint of the canvas texture below it. The coverage was impressive, as was dry time and there was no streaking. I tried mixing acrylic colors with it and that worked very well. I thinned it with water and that worked very well also. Odor was not a problem. I could see using this not just in painting projects but in a broad variety of DIY and craft applications like furniture refinishing, photo transfers, wood projects and the like. It would also work well to cover bad beginnings to start over!The quality of this gesso just comes through so thoroughly on so many fronts and gives a true satisfaction when using it. It is expensive, true, but work the investment. I am happy to give this product a five star rating!

This gesso is nice quality. I had decided to get rid of my gigantic bottle of super cheap store brand gesso and switch to Golden, and oh myyyyy what a difference. I wish I would've switched sooner. It's thick, very opaque, and smooth as a dream.

This gesso really does work. it has good coverage and will cover almost anything. the only thing that is doesn't really cover is sharpie. I had drawn out a picture onto an old record and then went over with it in sharpie but had messed up. I put the gesso on it 3 times and you could still see the sharpie clear as day. If you are trying to cover up sharpie good luck cause it may not work well but other then that it is good for covering old paintings.

Great to use for my dollhouse building. Great quality and finish. I can highly recommend this product.
