Order! Order!
Rather than go into the good and the bad of this DVD set vis-à -vis the picture and sound quality what you get and don't get, there are many other reviews for that, though I'd like to state how well this intelligent and atmospheric series has worn. No rather than these issues I'd like to address the problem of episode order upon the discs. Now I'm not going to come down too heavily on the discs producers about the fact the story seem to jump about because they have put them in production order rather than broadcast order, as the UK and US had different broadcast orders and to be honest both of these were rather haphazard and higgledy-piggledy back in the day anyway. But then these were the days before story arcs and story progression, something that works in some cases but not so much in others, and with Space 1999 order is really only an issue with the first few episodes, beyond that not so much. This said I suggest that if you want to get the most out of this series, especially the first few episodes, it's worth a look at the site ‘Space 1999 Chaos from Order’ where Andrew Kearly gives a well reasoned running order for season 1. See below my list with disc number made from his selection.1. Breakaway Disc 12. Earthbound Disc 23. Black Sun Disc 14. Missing Link Disc 25. Voyager's Return Disc 36. Matter of Life and Death Disc 17. Ring around the Moon Disc 18. The Last Sunset Disc 39. Alpha Child Disc 310. Death's other Dominion Disc 411. Force of Life Disc 312. Guardian of Piri Disc 213. The Troubled Spirit Disc 514. The Last Enemy Disc 515. Collision Course Disc 416. Dragon's Domain Disc 617. The Full Circle Disc 418. Mission of the Darians Disc 619. End of Eternity Disc 420. Still stands up to time!
I was about 4 when this first came out. I remember seeing episodes as a child and I remember owning a space 1999 eagle set. Have wanted to buy the full season set for awhile but eventually went ahead. I am a sci fi fan and this being 45 years or so old still appeals it just meets all the criteria for a good sci fi. Ok we had interesting ideas about 1999 now in 2020 I think we are still far away from a moon base, but it's still so good for its age. Not too far fetched and good stories! Thoroughly enjoying watching episodes I never saw and ones I vaguely remember as a child.

Moonbase Alpha
September 13th 1999, and a huge explosion knocks the moon out of orbit sending it along with Moonbase Alpha and it's personnel soaring through space. Gerry Anderson's second live action scifi series is a surprisingly adult series. Aiming to be a kind of British Star Trek, and coming across like a cross between Star Trek and Lost In Space which at the time seemed way off in the future but of course now is way in the past meaning that a lot of the "future" tech and science can seem laughably dated though the effects for a British 70's scifi series still hold up surprisingly well. Martin Landau is very good in the lead as base commander John Koenig as is his real life wife Barbara Bain as Doctor Helena Russell both just off American series Mission Impossible at the time. Barry Morse also good as scientist Victor Bergman while the rest of the cast are unfortunately mixed ranging from decent to wooden and forgettable. There are also a lot of big name guest stars including Brian Blessed, Joan Collins, Julian Glover, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. One of Gerry Anderson's best shows.

Worth every penny 5 stars
Arrived early well packed and in perfect condition the complete first season of a great program and the only one to have, at a really good price, 5 stars, and believe me you don't want to get the second season as it's a completely different show, but the first season is great, couldn't find it anywhere else at such a good price for a new box set, took me back to 19,75 and how much i looked forward to Saturday afternoons and the family sitting round the TV to watch this ( for it's day ) fantastic show, the iconic Eagle transporter, and the great production of the show, and some famous guest stars made for great viewing, it was a show that really tried and it's such a pity that someone took over the second season and ruined it with it's ridiculous rubber monster of the week, but watching it again reminded me of my father saying, were the hell do they keep getting there ships from, every week they lose a couple of Eagles, happy days,

The way good sci-fi series should be
John Koenig, Helena Russell and the gang remind us all of how a good sci-fi series should be made. Throw in the usual Gerry Anderson models and you've got a sure fire winner. Took me back to my youth and a time when we had a more optimistic view of what the future would hold. Of course we got to 1999 and nobody else had even been to the moon since the Apollo days never mind build a base there. You never know, maybe we'll do it this century!

Childhood remastered
I grew up with this show. It was usually on during school holidays & I would always watch it. For me it has stood the test of time, although some episodes more than others (still refuse to watch 'Full Circle'). So glad that I now own it on DVD, even though a little disc switching is required if you want the actual original running order. The picture quality is stunning. It's just a pity Season 2 didn't continue in this vein, instead we get space aliens that can transform into EARTH animals & intelligent rocks.
