Clint Barton compromised by poor accessories
Despite having been reading Marvel Comics since 1967, I've only very recently felt the urge to invest in some action figures. What I've found is that I prefer to keep my AFs sealed on the original card/plastic packaging, as I feel that unless one has a dedicated display case to show and keep them in, they tend to add to an already cluttered archive of stuff whereever one puts them. However, the Marvel Select figures are quite large and the packaging is huge, so unless one has loads of space, they're not easy to store, nor do they display well on card - similar size and slightly smaller DC figures often come in plainer, easier-to- store and display rectangular boxes, so if space is an issue for you, you may want to avoid the selects. These points aside, this particular figure is handsomely sculpted and although some more experienced collectors out there may feel that some figures don't have enough points of articulation, I'm very happy with this rendering of classic Silver Age Hawkeye/Clint Barton. I always liked Clints' short-fuse, chip-on-shoulder attitude, his mild inferiority complex when comparing himself to Captain America (his idol) and his awkwardness with women and his inability to cope well with rejection - all of these factors, of course, made him a figure many adolescent male comic fans could identify with! When I look at the faces of some action figures in particular, they often don't conjure up the hero/villain I know, so don't cut it for me. I'm happy to report there that for me, this sculpt of Hawkeye works as suiting his character and presence as a flawed yet noble hero. What I'm less happy about is the base that comes with the figure. Depicting a broken and bested Ultron, the problem is not with the quality of the sculpt, but with the lack of effort that has been put into the mechanism which allows Hawkeye to stand erect as in the illustrattion here on amazon and on the rear of the box - basically, although there is a hole in each of the figures' soles that should allow him to be posed just as in the picture, there is only one node to slip the a single hole over, instead of two (there should be another one on Ultron's chest. This wouldn't be a problem if the figure didn't lean forward so unnatrually, which makes it look somewhat naff. The figure stands fine alone, but it seems a shame not to use the handsome base. Pity a little more thought wasn't put into the conception and execution of the practical side of the presentation of this otherwise great figure. One further gripe: The bow and arrows are very lightweight and the former just keeps falling out of Hawkeye's hand no matter what you do with it - it would have been better if it had snapped into place more firmly. After all, Hawkeye's ability as a superhero basically lies in his bow, so he should always be holding it. This is highly irritating. One of the arrows is bowed with the weight of a minscule Janet Van Dyne (The Wasp, of course) poised on the end of the arrow. It's a nice touch, but again, the arrow doesn't really fit into Clint's hand properly, nor are the holes on Ultron's body deep enough to prevent the arrows falling out of it constantly. So to sum up, while the figure in itself is excellent, the accessories that complete the picture don't interface well with the figure to allow one to present a coherent whole, so I'd advise anyone buying it to keep it in the packaging as it looks better that way. This was my first Select and will probably be (almost) my last due to the combination of factors that I've found irritating - overlarge packaging, poor accessory interface. I'll stress again that the figure itself is excellent. I also have a Select Collossus, which is much better as it has no irritating accessories, just an arguably pointless background scenery piece (an hydraulic door/crush threat depicted on one of the X-men stories - a danger room moment, I think). It's worth keeping in mind that poorly-finished/conceived accessories can render an otherwise excellent figure more than a little disappointing.

Hawkeye and Wasp
Another great marvel select action figure. I've always loved Hawkeye in his traditional costume and it's a shame they haven't replicated this in the movies. Here you have with one of the better bases and an extra little person, the wasp! It's one of my personal favourite.
