Dose it use vibration ?

I would advise against leaving it clipped onto the headstock permanently as the reviewer above suggests. Well, definitely take it off when the guitar is not in use. I left mine nearly always permanently clipped onto one my several guitars, and eventually one of the plastic gripping arms broke due to the constant pressure of the spring. However, it is a good tuner, and I will buy another. You can leave it clipped onto the guitar all the time while you are actually playing, as it is light and unobtrusive, but when you've finished playing the guitar, remember to take the tuner off, or it will probably break in time. I don't see that as a design fault, I just made a mistake by leaving it permanently clipped onto a guitar which it is probably not designed to do, strengthwise. I had mine for about 3 and a half years, and a lot of that time it was permanently clipped onto a headstock, because it was easy to find, and ready to use, so it did last a long time before it actually broke. I won't be leaving the next one permanently clipped on when the guitar is not in use.

Yes it works both when the electric guitar is plugged into an amp and when it’s not

Can it be used with a tenor banjo?

Yes, you can tune pretty much anything that vibrates with this gizmo!

Does this turn off automatically?

Yes, it does. Can’t tell you how long but if you forget about it the battery won’t run flat. It has good battery life and the batteries are very cheap online in bulk packs.
