Love the portability. Can’t wait to use it outside when working in the yard.

To start off I want to let you know I spent about 20-30 hours researching a new blue tooth speaker so I'm aware of other products out there to compare this unit to. The units I compared were the Bose Sound Link Mini, Sound Link III, Klipsch KMC3, and the Jawbone BIG JAMBOX. I would like to say that I realize the price points vary with these models but you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to these units. I first purchased the Bose Sound Link Mini based on all the positive reviews. It is stylish and very small but the sound I thought was lacking for $199 and it was extremely positional. The Sound Link III was also very positional with I think poor base response for having twice the speakers as the Mini and $100 more. The Klipsch did sound very good and was very loud with great high's and low's but having to use 8 D cell batteries was a deal breaker for me. Also I would not feel comfortable taking the Klipsch outdoors. The Jawbone sounded ok but for the price didn't think it matched up. Now in comes the Melody, what an amazing product by an American company who designed and engineered this product in the USA. The fit and finish is outstanding, a very solid and well built speaker from the carrying handle, charging options, waterproof design, and amazing lithium ion battery life to the amazing sound produced at all volumes. I have put this unit through it's paces without any complaints. The soft touch controls feel solid and are very responsive. The bluetooth pairing is very simple and straight forward. We primarily use iphones so the AAC codecs is CD quality as promised. The range of the bluetooth is standard at around 30 feet. The battery does last around 20 hours depending on volume and takes around 3-4 hours to fully charge. It comes with a DC plug for your car or truck so no problems charging anywhere. Now for the sound, amazing truly amazing with omni-directional sound which means it sounds good anywhere from the counter top to the floor and everywhere in between. I would say you get a little better bass response if you place it in a corner. I listen to a lot of live music which is where this speaker shines. Crystal clear vocals with excellent acoustic reproduction. Unlike the other units mentioned above the melody sounds great at all volume levels. Also as an extra advantage the melody has a volume boost for lower level recording or if you just want to crank it up a little louder. When you turn the volume up all the way on the melody a light will flash green at the top of the scale and at that point you can increase the volume 5 levels which I feel is about 20% louder then the max setting. So to recap, very portable, water and UV light resistant, simple set up, multiple charging capabilities, excellent battery life with short charging time, replaceable battery (years down the road when needed), CD quality ACC or Apt-X bluetooth codecs (depending on your device), 8 speaker omni-directional sound, and a partridge in a pear tree. Just kidding, but don't just take my word for it do a google search for Soundcast Melody reviews and you will understand just how good this unit is. If you can get past the sticker shock you will be pleasantly surprised with the true quality, features and performance of this great American engineered product. Like I said don't take my word for it just do a litttle research and I think you will agree. Thanks for taking the time to read my review, hopefully it will help in your final decision.

I have nothing but the highest praise for this wonderfully useful and fun addition to my collection of audio toys. Let us get this out of the way up front; it is pricey at $449 when compared to some other choices you may have on the market. But if you're like me, when you've had a chance to take this for a test drive you'll see (or hear) that you're not comparing apples to apples. This is an apple like no other.Out of the box (it came extremely well packaged), Bluetooth pairing to my Kindle Fire was fast and easy. I was playing an assortment of nuggets from the cloud in minutes.The design is user friendly, featuring a handle built into the mold, and the build is solid. It is light enough (~8 lbs.) to make it easily portable but heavy enough to give you comfort in the build quality.Most important: How does it sound? Eight speakers allow for brilliantly warm stereo from any listening position. Think putting this in the middle of the yard during a bbq party. Perfect. The bass is the most pleasant surprise. It does not disappoint.I tested the range, taking the unit 25 feet from my Kindle to the corner of my yard. There was no loss in any way.Maybe the biggest unexpected effect this purchase has had, I bought this for the deck and patio but have found myself carrying it to whatever room (garage, basement...) I need to spend any amount of time in.Worth every penny!
