A nation's hopes rest in the hands of a former White House guard after the president is held hostage by terrorists in this action thriller from director Antoine Fuqua. Trying to adapt to civilian life after a tragedy ended his Secret Service career, former special forces veteran Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is thrust back onto the front line when a group of terrorists led by Kang (Rick Yune) attack the White House and seize the president (Aaron Eckhart). Now, finding himself the last Secret Service man left alive inside the building, Banning, overseen by acting President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), must bring all his special forces experience to bear as he embarks on a one-man mission to take out the terrorists and save the president. Review: Good action movie - Good film action all the way through and part of the fallen films… Review: Prepare to be entertained! - Watched this wearing my sceptics hat. Huge mistake. This really is not a bad film at all.. Stacks of action, but actually quite well choreograhed stuff, good casting - and well shot and directed. Yes, the storyline is simple enough - baddies storm the White House etc., and a hero emerges from the shadows...usual stuff. But this film does get into gear very quickly. The plot actually does have just a tiny element of credibility about it, a "just possible" scenario. The hero, Butler, carries off his role with style. There is a good casting line up for the baddies too. This film is about pure entertainment and for me, it works. Far superior to its "rival", "White House Down", this film really gets you drawn in and holds your attention throughout. Yes, it is a little over the top, but so too was "Bourne", and others. Once again, dont listen too much to the professional nit pickers. Sit back, watch and prepare to be entertained!

What a Movie
This is a great movie with plenty of fast paced action galore, never idling just full on. Story is fantastic worth owning for your collection. The White House gets plastered by terrorist trying to get their main target of killing the world leaders. Butler does a marvelous job of convincing you that your included and sitting there with them while everything is going on. Saving the president from both sides of the fence as there is a twist in the show, now I think that will keep you thinking, fabulous acting from all and I rated this an A grade plus for entertainment plus keeping you guessing what is going to happen next, No more hints so go on and collect your munchies for a wonderful night of action with spills and thrills with your feet up. Love I.D.4. than you will really love this. Enjoy!

Can't go wrong if you want a fast paced action thriller
The pace on this film is tremendous and the acting from Gerard Butler was great. It seems like action movies are made for him and long may it continue. Perfect packaged action thriller with no real life harm done. Quite a lot of violence / high body count, but no gore. Highly recommend. Edited to add: I see this movie gets a trouncing on the reviews from a lot of people. I typically don't enjoy re-hash films where the same high level plot is getting re-hashed with sub plot differences. But this one had enough difference from Die Hard to be enjoyable for me, but then, I do love a tightly woven mindless thriller that rips along, so there's that.

Listen... We can't deny that this movie is pure entertainment and a little bit of a piece of propaganda. But past that, it's also a very well crafted movie. The script is very well structured. If the writing is weak in terms of dialogues, it's very intense in terms of conflict and it presents high stakes that will leave you on the edge of your seat! Many people have pointed out the special effects, which are very average, but I guess the budget really went into having an all star cast! A movie like that needed great actors to be taked seriously and reach its highest potential, because without strong performances, this movie could've been very campy, which would've been a terrible fail due to the nature of the subject. I would recommend this movie if you want a brutal action film that is entertainment over psychology, because sometimes is good just to have gun fights and explosions in spectacular settings, but this one also benefits from a strong narrative structure and solid actors!

Because London Has Fallen (the sequel) is coming out on March 4th, I re-watched the DVD of Olympus Has Fallen. My opinion that it was a Five-Star film of pure entertainment held true. I saw this movie and White House is Down at the theater when both films came out in 2013. Everyone has their favorite of the two films. Mine, of course, is Olympus Has Fallen, and I'll tell you why. The first reason is Ashley Judd, who has a very short role in the beginning as the President's wife. She is so talented and beautiful in those first ten minutes that you literally fall in love with her yourself and understand why everything else follows. When she plays a short, supporting role, Ashley conveys a certain magic on screen that is utterly captivating The second treason is Gerard Butler who somehow manages to steal every movie he's in. Butler is the perfect "every man". He's able to project humor, drama, and action without any effort. He's also the type of actor that most men would like to have as a friend, while the ladies find themselves attracted to him for other reasons. He certainly sold me on being a Secret Service agent, who just happened to be ex-Special Forces. The fight scenes are showcased with great aplomb and display Butler's hand-to-hand combat skills to the fullest extent. I almost expected Butler to say, "Yippy ki ya" to the main villain, who's played by Rick Yune The third reason is the rest of the main cast with Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassatt, Morgan Freeman, Rick Yune, Raha Mitchell, and Robert Forster. They all bring their characters to the forefront of each scene, creating a realness to their roles and helping to move the film along. The fourth reason is Antoine Fuqua, who directed the film. I haven't seen a movie of his that I haven't enjoyed like Training Day and Tears of the Sun to name a few. He makes the impossible happen, and you're immediately swept up into the urgency of the situation with a roller-coaster type ride until the final scene is viewed in all of its majestic glory. This is not only a film worth seeing, but you will want to own it as well. Now, if only London Has Fallen is half as good as this one, I'll be a happy camper.
