Amazing!
Always been into rap/hip hop since the early days in the 1980’s. Recently discovered Kendrick Lamar on Spotify via one of my close friends and WOW! He is truly an amazing artist. Despite having the full Spotify experience I needed to own the CDs too…..This album truly delivers with outstanding rapping, moving lyrics and amusing telephone chats. My favourite song on this album is by far “Swimming Pools (Drank)”. Excellent stuff, which I will continue to purchase 👊

Rap is the new Rock
"We the new rockstars" Mr. West raves in one of his many rants, but he is completely right. Think about it, when was the last time a Rock album beat a Rap album in sales, it's been a while the sales are dominated but the top dogs of the genre such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Nas. And along with this Rap albums are starting to becoming more adventurous and nowadays the production of the track is just as important as the lyrics, to produce a track is to be incredibly musically talented unlike the old days of heavy samples and blood-pumping beats looped for 4 minutes, this is no criticism of that time I mean the best Rap ever came from that era but this is the new world and it is going into new realms of sound. And Kendrick Lamar's second album (first on a major label) is exactly, creating symphonies of tracks with complex rhythmic structures and songs stretching over 10 minutes. The production of every track is an outstanding creation on the producers behalf and the skits within the tracks portraying Lamar's lifestyle and the way he has changed over the years. But of course where would Rap be without its lyrics and believe me Lamar is certainly not short of these. His strong flow over each track gives his lyrics that extra push he needs and the themes he spits are so true and unfortunately sometimes forgotten in Rap, all the partying, smoke blunts, gaming on bitches and having lots of money sometimes clouds the artists real perception of the world and his or her personality and the reality and almost confessional lyrics of Lamar bring the listener even closer. Of course there are some mad bangers of the urban lifestyle (m.A.A.d city) but his clever switch of a partying song (Swimming Pools) and genuinely touching love song (Poetic Justice) are the flavour that keeps this albums taste from start to finish.Without a doubt one of the best lyricists of our time and with an album like this stakes will be high for his follow up, but with his varied themes and songs that just grow and grow on you I'm sure that Mr. Lamar will be around a long time. And thank God for that.Essential Tracks:Bitch, Don't Kill My VibeMoney TreesPoetic Justicem.A.A.d citySwimming Pools (Drank)

Just do it!
One of the best albums I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I am a 40yo woman who can appreciate rap, but isn't the worlds biggest fan. However, Kendrick has helped me to find a new love for this genre.Kendrick Lamar is a lyrical genius who is able to express all things; be them what is to be expected, or not.I have this whole album on repeat and even bought new headphones just so that I can drown out the world and fall deeper into the cacophony of sounds that he has beautifully crafted.Just buy the bloody thing!

Kendrick Lamar
The first of three critically acclaimed cd's from KL. Good Kid was ranked 4 in the Metacritic best of list for 2012. (Metacritic takes the 'best of' reviews of critics all over to produce a definitive best of list.) To Pimp a Butterfly was rated number 1 for 2015 and, at the time of writing, Damn is number 1 for 2017. Kendrick Lamar also appears on SZA's debut CTRL.
