Easy to read and follow instructions. Simple to set up and calibration is just to turn it on outside in fresh air. It found the gas leak before the British Gas engineer arrived. That saved him time as the leak was in the floor (Methane is lighter than air, so rises, so the floor is not the first place you look). Leak either in the concrete slab or under my kitchen floor. Had to condemn (capped off) that pipe and now buying an induction hob as too expensive to get new gas pipe into brand new kitchen and new floor :-(

I’m a gas engineer and need a reliable gas detector. I bought one from Ridgid but was initially disappointed in its’ sensitivity. I put up with it for a while until recently deciding that I couldn’t rely on it sufficiently for my work, assuming that it was just a poor product. I thought I should give Ridgid my feedback, at leat giving them an opportunity to respond before writing a negative review.I was absolutely astounded when I received a new replacement 3 days later, which works perfectly well. This is the best customer service I’ve ever encountered.

I bought this combustible gas detector to confirm whether there was a small gas leak from my cooker that was recently installed - now and again I thought I could smell gas now and again (well the additive they include that provides a distinctive smell).The product was simple to use (it was intuitive)and posed no additional hazards. It was supplied with four AA batteries, probe and the unit. Easy to assemble and operate. Tested the probe using a hand held lighter (not igniting the gas) and it went off in alarm mode. Removed it from gas source and the alarm mode decays away back to rest mode. The alarm was raised in three ways: Visually on the screen scale; Audioable alarm; and Vibration via the unit.Using this, I checked the cooker, that did register one bar (small leak) at one of the connecting joints. Called the Gas Safe Technician back to rectify the fault. Re-tested the cooker after he left and a few times after that, its ok - no alarm raised.The product felt of good quality, to hold and use, although the durability is to be tested still; I will post an update in the future. I paid £75 (including VAT & delivery), so based on the ease of use and price, it gets 5 stars, but I will deduct 1 star as it does not come with a storage case, and the probe is delicate/fragile. Would have been 5 stars if it came with protective case for a sensitive instrument.

The sniffer vibrates near presence of gas and homes in straight to leak with sound and visual, will save lots of time finding a leak, worth every penny 🤓

I use this regularly when doing gas repairs and servicing. The unit is very well made and has a solid weighty feel to it. The flexible hose also feels very strong and robust (to be expected by such a highly regarding tool maker as Ridgid). It also comes with the manual on cd (a throwback to the 90's presumably) and a thick multi language manual, this really isn't needed as the sniffer is very simple and intuitive to use. It's supplied in a small canvas pouch that does an adequate job of protecting the thing.The only minor niggle I have is that it's far too easy to switch the device by knocking the power button when it's stored away. A lock button or similar would really improve the design. I just turn a battery the wrong way around to prevent this.

firstly, I am not a gas fitter, just a joe blogs. I bought this to check all the connection of my provence gas heater, (as it is recommended, on changing the gas cylinder, you check all connections). easy to follow instructions and it is easy to use. as a test, I didn't light the pilot light, and just run it along the vent of the heat exchanger, and all of the lights lit up, the siren sounded and it vibrated in my hand. personally, I feel I can trust this product.

I’m a gas safe engineer and when I first bought this and used it (April) I thought the detection was a bit low. Went to use again today as haven’t needed since and it doesn’t even detect gas when you unscrew the test nipple and leave it next to it. Doesn’t even give you the chance to send off for repair or replacement either DO NOT BUY

I bought this for my tool box as my new analyser doesn’t have this functionality. I used this on a gas escape recently and although it did detect, it was nowhere near as sensitive as I’d have hoped. Had a 20mb drop at a poorly soldered joint and the tester was quite low on pick up for it.
