I have high levels of nitrates and ammonia, is this what id use to sort the problem?

Be careful not to upset your tank by doing a half water change. This can be too stressful for some fish. Best do a 20-25% water change more frequently. I have found this to be less stressful and I have 3 tanks. Always treat the water too.

This product balances the water in your aquarium which in turns allows you to not change your water as often. It reduces the levels of phosphates , stabilises the pH and KH levels and restores essential trace elements and minerals

Is this supposed to leave a white residue on the gravel, please?

The product has greenish particles when you first put it in, but your filtration system should be movingly the water around the tank enough so that it doesn’t sit on the gravel after the first 24hrs
