Key Words: Flash cards

Key To Unlock Reading.
Content synopsis, ideas and words used:Enclosed advice card outlines how best to use, listing all 100 Key Words; in the order in which they should be introduced. Taken from this card: " You can begin by selecting words important to your child, making your own cards if necessary. These could include your child's name, the name of their pet or 'mummy'. Explain what the words say and talk about the letters and sounds. Can your child recognise the words as you hold up the cards? Can he or she pick them out from a small group of other flash cards?"" You can also use the cards to make short sentences together: I am big/little. It is old/new. We have one/two. You can see Peter and Jane doing this in book 4C ".All lower case in their groups according to the first word in each pair...a/ can, and/ came, he/ could, I/ come, in/ do, is/ did, it/ first, of/ down, that/ get, the/ from, to/ him, was/ have.All/ not, are/ his, as/ one, at/ on, be/ so, but/ said, for/ we, had/ they, with/ has, you/ go.About/ here, an/ her, back/ into, been/ if, before/ like, big/ just, by/ look, call/ little, made/ went, make/ well, me/ what, more/ were, much/ where, must/ when, my/ who, new/ which, no/ will, now/ your, off/ some, old/ she, only/ them, or/ their, other/ there, our/ then, out/ two, over/t his, right/ want, see/ up.Card Height 10 cm Length 15.5 cm. Flexible thin card with laminated wipeable finish and rounded edges. An example of letter size ' l ' height 32 mm, ' m ' height 23 mm width 30 mm. Letters vary within these sizes, I hope this gives you an idea. Thickness of letters 3 mm and jet black. Card backgrounds are brilliant white.I purchased two packs to give greater scope for sentence building. The second pack also allows for games such as 'snap' and 'go fishing/memory to be played (blu tacking a piece of paper over the sides not needed). Also a group of cards can be laid out and one duplicate card at a time given to be matched. We use these with the Key Words box set of the first six ladybird books. These Flash Cards are a superb asset and we shall definitely continue to purchase this reading scheme. It doesn't matter which reading scheme is used at school, we feel the Ladybird system is a sound foundation. Word reinforcement and sentence construction with clear understanding is quickly gained. We most highly recommend these cards and Ladybird.

Progressive reading scheme
Definitely the best reading scheme for young children who have missed out on so much school time over the last 2 years. Parents can help their children and give them the confidence they need to progress.

PLAIN WORD CARDS
If you’re hoping or assuming these cards will feature some of the lovely nostalgic illustrations from the Peter and Jane reading book series (or any imagery at all from anywhere for that matter) you’ll be very disappointed.! They are good quality large PLAIN white key word cards with bold black print. Double-sided with different single words clearly-printed centrally on each card. 50 cards totalling 100 words (plus an double-sided usage guide card). Please see my photos. The ONLY illustration is on the box!Mixed opinions about this product really as the quality is very good but feel very misled in to thinking one side of each card might have featured an illustration. Can’t quite figure out why they bothered titling the product as ‘Key Words with Peter and Jane’ when they’re just the basic plain 100 first keywords without any specific or special connection to Peter and Jane books at all (other than the books obviously contained key words too)! We’re not returning them because they’ll still be useful but so wish they’d produced an actual Peter and Jane illustrations word cards set.Have given this product 3 stars (only for the good quality of the semi-glossy large cards and printing) but if they’d had Peter and Jane book illustrations on, they’d have had a full 5 stars easily!!

Great game for unenthusiastic readers.
I bought this product for my grandson who is a reading slow starter. We are using the flash cards in conjunction with the Ladybird Reading Scheme. We have a game where we pick out ten words (that's enough for one session), he reads the word, then I hide it and he spells it out, then he puts the word in a sentence. we have played it in competition with others, obviously tailoring the choice of words to fit all abilities. That means sometimes writing out more difficult words. He is now enthusiastic to reach the next level of the reading scheme and is always asking to play the 'card' game. Thank you.

I bought two sets thinking I could use them to play a fishing/ matching game.
I like that the print is very clear. I didn't like the fact that there were words printed on both sides. I wanted to use them for a fishing / matching game and bought 2 sets but I can't use them for that purpose.

Very good flash cards
I bought this set of flash cards to help my son who has learning difficulties and have found them very helpful. The cards are a good size, easy to hold and the card is good and thick so they won't wear too quick. The writing is nice and clear and bold and after using them with my son a few times I've noticed a difference in his reading already. I would definitely recommend them. Personally I don't think you can beat the Peter and Jane reading books, they are so much more effective than Kipper, Biff and Chip. My son has not been able to learn to read from the Kipper books but within a few weeks of reading the Peter and Jane series his reading has really come on.

Fantastic!!!!
I bought these along with the box set of the first six books for my two and a half year old son. I started by picking out a few of the words that appeared in the first book and when he recognised them I read the book to him and pointed out the words that he knew. I only ever taught him when he showed interest and I never pushed him but after just a couple of months he can read the first two books easily by himself. I can't recommend these cards (and the books!) enough. Now that he knows quite a lot of the words we spread them out on the floor and make sentences out of them so they're fun too.
