An early pioneer - good value, clear taste, clear conscience
The fillets are firm and dry in the right sense - not mushy, saturated or with the weight made up with fragment offcuts. Fillets also tend to have a higher % fish than say chunks. In this case 68% - I looked up some well known brands but they seemed coy about displaying the % on their web page. This brand has a light flavour - I find some tinned mackerel over rich, particularly if it has absorbed too much oil. These will tempt me back to tinned mackerel (which I had given up on for the above reasons) as a change from tuna.Ring pull was easy pull and robust. Seems a minor positive but ring pulls are still not universal and I have have experienced the frustration of ring pulls parting company and a scar to remind me of my impatient attempts at opening a tin when this has happened. On to the environmental credentials. ‘Green washing’ is becoming prevalent (it is hard to find any product that is not green and sustainable). The fairly comprehensive narrative (all on the Amazon product description) is intelligently communicated and comes across as authentic. The product does not display the Marine Stewardship Council blue emblem (see msc.org). However, I don’t regard the MSC as a gold standard and I was always intrigued that it was founded as a partnership between WWF and …. Unilever. Enough of the MSC, this is a review about the product!I checked three suppliers who are all renowned for being tight on several very key screening criteria and they all stocked Fish 4 Ever. Go Organic comments in an article:“Fish 4 Ever is a pioneer of sustainable fishing. It brought organic values to wild fishing 20 years ago before sustainability became a common seafood claim. It goes beyond the base standard of the MSC blue tick, insisting on the most targeted methods known for their selectivity and low bycatch and discard.”That’s good enough for me.Discard ratio and bycatch (accidentally catching other species and throwing them back no longer alive) are also overlooked and under rated criteria when it comes to environmentally friendly. It strikes me that this producer has had its heart in the right place since well before virtue signalling and have thought through the important issues across the exosphere rather than being a Johnny come lately with a tick box approach. They were pioneering the concept before it became a populist concept and before such credentials could command a premium (although I consider they are good value).Oh, and the oil is organic as well.Highly commended. Clear taste, clear conscience.Update - returned to get some more.

Very nice mackerel fillets but flavour not quite as much to my taste as supermarket ones
I think these mackerel fillets are probably more ecologically sound than the ones we normally get.But to be totally honest the flavour and texture is slightly different and not quite as much to my taste as the ones we normally get.I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but the actual mackerel itself feels a little bit drier than the ones we normally get. The flavour is good but the texture is just that little bit different and it could be quite simply that I'm not used to it as much and that's all. However, that's the reason I'm giving four stars in this particular case. It is a quality product but for me that slight difference in terms of texture is enough to knock off a star.

Misleading origin description
Description ( see below ) is of UK fished and packed Mackerel. In fact this product is made in Morocco where UK standards don't apply and there is more risk of food pollution eg Mercury/ Cadmium in the fish and Aflatoxins in the Sunflower oil! MACKEREL: Classic UK Mackerel, fished at the optimum time and packed in cold pressed virgin organic sunflower oil ORGANIC: Fish4Ever is the only canned fish brand in the UK which insists on organic land ingredients. Our mackerel is packed in organic cold pressed sunflower oil

Decent quality mackerel
This pack of 10 Fish 4 Ever Mackerel Fillets come in nice little cartons and are easy to open, revealing the clean cut fillet of fish swimming in the oil inside. The taste isn't the strongest I've tried but its on the right side of being strong and more natural and the olive oil works with the fish flavour rather than disguising it. These work well both in a sandwich and a salad, I can recommend both methods.

Ten tins of absolutely delicious mackerel fillets...
The “Mackerel Fillets In Organic Sunflower Oil” from “Fish4Ever” is a pack of ten 120g tins of mackerel in a small amount of sunflower oil.Ok, so I’m not going to go on about the importance of sustainable fishing and the obvious pros of eating organic food. All of that jazz is detailed in the Amazon listing, so I’m not going to duplicate that here. This is purely a review of the product as it is.Firstly, the tinned mackerel arrived with a good length on their best before date. I received the mackerel in October 2022 and the best before date on them is 31 December 2025 – so a good three years on them.Upon opening the tin, I found I had four good sized fillets of mackerel in the tin. There was a moderate amount of sunflower oil around them – not too much as you sometimes do get.Taste-wise, the mackerel is absolutely delicious. It’s clearly very good quality mackerel, with no bones, or gristle-like bits in there. They’re a sort of melt-in-the-mouth mackerel fillet, packed with flavour and a soft texture. Really enjoyed them, so highly recommended.

Outstanding quality mackerel
Fish 4 Ever mackerel fillet in sunflower oil is very good quality, tasty fish with no bones (so far).I drain some of the oil and use it for a salad dressing to eat with the mackerel. I often struggle with tins but this ring pull can is super-easy to open; it needs very little effort at all so it would be good for someone with dexterity issues. The fish looks and tastes delicious. You can tell it’s premium fish as soon as you open the can. That said, I’m not sure I would be willing to pay £2.15 per can (at the time of review); if I could afford it, I certainly would. It is the best canned mackerel I’ve ever tasted and I would recommend it if you can afford it.
