This is DDR4 model. Worked great!
My three cents:I got 2 boards from MSI for my friends. I helped them build the computer for this specific model PRO Z790-A Wifi DDR4 and is working perfectly out of the box. Booted up with no issue. This is the DDR4 model.Pros:- Support DDR4 memory and OC pretty well. Does not support DDR5-Great extended heatsink on the VRM-Fast WIFI 6E and 2.5G LAN-Runs pretty smoothlyUpdate: 3-19-2023Everything is working fine with no issue

great motherboard
being one of the "cheaper" z790 mobos on the market you get all the performance you would get out of the higher end motherboards for a lower price have no complaints

WiFi and LAN drivers NOT preinstalled
Once I finally got it working, it's a good board. BUT I had to reinstall Windows because I couldn't log in because I couldn't connect to the internet. Had to reinstall, start without logging in, and put the WiFi drivers on a USB drive with a separate computer and install them from there. And yes I tried a LAN cable too. Didn't work. Very annoying setup, BUT it works well once I got everything sorted out.

Bad quality control, Board was Dead On Arrival, CPU Debug LED lit
There isn't much to say. This board would not recognize any CPU placed in it. (CPU debug LED is ON)Swapped RAM, Power supplies, made no difference. This was the 2nd MSI Z790 DOA today. The third MSI Z760-P motherboard was good using all these same components. Terrible quality control. I wasted 7 hours trying different combinations of hardware including trying a BIOS Flashback (which did not function).

The RGB controller does not work. Other than that, a competent motherboard.
This machine is my son's Christmas present. I built it as a essentially a production machine for music composition. It's primary requirement was to support 128GB of memory for the large amount of symphonic sample packs he uses. To that end the system has an I7-13700K CPU and a DDR4 G.Skill 128GB3600 ram kit. A Samsung 1TB 980Pro M.2 and two 2TB 970Evo M.2 for a total of 5TB. The ram kit is actually running XMP1 at 3450MTPS since 3600 throws errors. Everything works fine and it's been burnt in for 48 hours without an error. The only thing that refuses to work is the MSI ARGB controller which refuses to talk to either the Deepcool 360 AIO or the Deepcool case fans. It also doesn't like the 5V ARGB lighting strip either. The case is being cooled and lit with cheap but excellent UpHere case fans that come with their own controller. I could RMA this brand-new motherboard but goodness knows how long MSI would take to turn it around. Certainly, if it's anything like their tech support, I doubt if I'd see the motherboard before next year. This was my first MSI motherboard and it will be my last. I should have stuck with Azus.

Whacky BIOS
Had a weird BIOS issue where fan configurations were not saved. Reverting to the oldest BIOS incrementally (applying each update all the way back to the initial BIOS), and updating to the latest BIOS update also incrementally seems to solve the issue.I also had to use the keyboard in the fan configuration screen to make it more stable.Other than that, it does its job, and it has good features in comparison to the price point. It also has decent VRMs.

So far so good
A bit expensive for a "Pro" series MSI board (which is their entry level), but a quick look at the specs and board layout and you realize this is the same as the Z690 Tomahawk, except with stronger DRM and the 790 chipset of course.Unlike previous "Pro" boards, this has a fixed I/O shield and lots of fast USB ports. There's no RGB on the board itself (which can be a plus for some), but for me the ARGB is working well with my Fractal Torrent Compact case.BIOS is a little unintuitive as a long time ASUS user, but it's got the basics down (can't control the ARGB through it though, have to install MSI Center)13700K and 3600CL16 RAM, everything running smoothly and reliably.
