Smart Cat The Ultimate Scratching Post

This cat scratcher is great. I have 2 cats, one medium sized 3yr old cat and one large 10yr old cat and they just love it. It’s quite tall and the cats can stretch themselves out to use it rather than having to crouch down. It’s very sturdy and looks good too. Having 2 cats I usually have to buy a new scratcher every few months but they have been using this one constantly for a few months now and it’s still like new. It doesn’t leave a mess when used with no bits of the material falling off from time to time, just a bit of dust now and then. It was a bit more expensive than some scratchers on the market but it’s already saved me money as I would have had to buy a new one by now. As I said it’s still like new a few months after buying and I feel it will last for a long time yet, so good value for money. Better to spend a little extra now to save a lot in the future. I would highly recommend this purchase.

The first thing that attracted me to this cat scratcher besides it's sheer size and bargain price, was the look of it. I didn't want some cheap, furry thing stood in the apartment. This however, looks like a piece of furniture, like a roman column. It could even double as a telephone stand. I'm sure the manufacturers realized this and they took the liberty to make the wood parts in the picture look and elegant deep brown - with sloped contours. This however is not what you get. The wood is pale MDF and there are no sloping contours. Therefore, the picture is misleading. Nonetheless, I'm giving this 5 stars since it's still a quality, sturdy and effective scratch post at a cost which is more than reasonable. Noodles the cat began to use it instantly and is still doing so after a week since purchase - enticed with a bit of cat nip in the seams at eaither side. The cissal holds up well. Despite the picture being misleading, this still looks like a piece of furniture. I'd even go as far to say that it looks good as something in the room. Get one. Just expect the pale blocks of wood.

We have had this post for 2 years now so I think I can call this a real world review. Let's get the important thing out of the way. This is a BIG scratching post! It has a large footprint (for complete stability) and a section on the top that is big enough for a cat to sit on and look down on the others. Oh and it is very expensive for a scratching post (we got ours through a Warehouse deal and it looked new). Why is this post so good? Well aside of the size, which means cats can really stretch as they scratch - a good thing for cats - it is also incredibly tough. 2 years in and while it is worn (4 cats originally, now sadly down to 2) it is holding up amazingly well to the attention it gets every single day. It stands in a corner so there are only 2 sides available at any time. This means they get a lot of attention as the cats use the post every time they walk into the room. The plan is that it will get turned around when it is worn on the original 2 sides. After 2 years I am thinking it will need to be finally turned by the end of the year! It is just so much better than any other post I have ever used (and being a "cat person" there have been a number over the years) that I cannot imagine ever getting a different type. At current rate of wear this should last at least another 3 years, and that makes it an excellent investment. If you have cats, and have the space available for this (check the dimensions) then you will simply not buy a better scratching post!

I bought this product hoping that I could train my cat to scratch the post instead of my new sofas, as he was getting a habit of doing. I have tried similar, less sturdy products before, including posts covered in fabric, cardboard and coiled rope. My cat has knocked them all over and/ or torn them to pieces within weeks. He weighs 6kg and is too tall for most posts when at full stretch. I was therefore prepared to pay extra for something more robust. This product has really worked! My cat finds the surface material irresistible to scratch and now ignores the sofa right next to it. As you can see from the photo, the post is tall enough even for a long/ tall cat at full stretch, and easily withstands his weight. At one point (when I sprayed it with catnip to encourage him to scratch) he climbed it with all four paws and it did not budge. The post is easy to assemble. Although it is pretty large, and the base and top are made of fairly cheap-looking wood, I don't have any complaints about having it on display in my living room. It's saved my sofas and stopped me having to scold the cat every day. Highly recommended!

My last cat scratch post cost about £40 and has been worth the money but the sisal was finished bought new and re glued but well past it now as it was about 6 years old so decided on paying similar for similar post and got this one.easily assembled you just screw the wood base board to the post ,screws provided .only thing I could say was a small gripe was the base board comes in 2 parts and slots together and then screws in post,my last one was one complete base board and the post screwed into it which I though was a better sturdier procedure unsure why they made it 2 seperate pieces to be assembled together ?one of the screw holes was slightly bigger than the other but screws were same size so wouldn’t tighten properly apart from that it’s everything you need in a scratch post,strong sturdy longer length and good quality sisal?cheaper ones costing less than £20 don’t last and are flimsy it’s false economy better off paying a bit more that will last hopefully years like my last one maybe it will last longer than my poor cat she’s 15 and has been poorly lately .i would recommend this

Best scratching post i have ever ever bought! Durable, easy to put together and all my cats love it! Plus tbh it's lasted so well and it still looked nice. Given the punishment it's taken i am beyond impressed.

I have four fairly large cats (ranging from 6kg to 9kg) who have tested this product for me. This product sat in my Amazon shopping cart for some time while I pondered whether it was crazy to spend so much money on a scratching pole. After having had the pole for approximately three months now, I’m comfortable to say it was worth the money as my cats seem to love it and it’s a quality product. The pole is much taller than your average scratching pole (approximately 85cm from the base to the top) and very sturdy. It doesn’t show any signs of wobble despite my cats sitting on top of it, applying their amble weight to it while scratching and scratching while hanging upside down from the top of it (some pictures are included to show this). My cats are very destructive and I generally find that any scratching toy I purchase them starts showing wear and fluff almost immediately - I’ve included a picture to show the condition after three months of active use and it’s fairing really well. One downside to this product would be is that I’m not sure there’s a way to replace the scratching sections once worn and/ or destroyed - however, if the life of the product is lengthy I’m comfortable with this. One other thing I’d add is it took almost a week for my cats to show any interest in this product at all so don’t give up on it (and feel enraged about wasting your money) if your babies don’t show immediate interest !

The product is good but the top is smooth and not covered with cat's covers . my cats slipped from it and they love to sit on top which they cant with this product so they just use the stand

I knew I needed to get my cat a great scratching post. She was scratching up all of our furniture and the scratching post she had was too small and just not very nice! After we placed an order for new furniture, we knew we had to get her a post that would stop all of her scratching! After doing extensive research, I found out what is really important in a scratching post is size, it must be big and tall so that the cat can stretch out. It must be sturdy, so the cat cannot easily knock it over, and it should have a favorable scratching material (sisal is preferable). Well, this post meets all of those criteria. So I bought two posts, this one - after finding this incredible deal on amazon (29.99 with free prime shipping when I purchased), and a very expensive competitor post developed by a veterinarian. A small note on cost - buy this from amazon! It is so much cheaper than at the pet stores, they cost upwards on 80 bucks at the pet stores, so stick with amazon! Anyway, my cat likes this post better than the more expensive competitor and it truly is perfect! She no longer scratches any furniture at all, our new furniture looks perfect! When she wants to scratch, she goes straight to this post and scratches away, stretching out and fully enjoying herself. I never thought getting a good scratching post would solve her scratching problem, but it completely did! This was absolutely worth the investment. A few notes - you can buy a topper for this scratching post so that your cat has a comfy perch to sit on. It is small and red and does not look very comfortable. I recommend making your own! This is what I did and my cat absolutely loves it! I simply got a piece of wood (you can size however you wish, mine is a nice square fit to her size), added a piece of foam and upholstered fabric on top! If you want your cat to have a scratching post and a nice little perch, this is the way to go. My cat lays on her perch on top of this every single day. She loves scratching her post, and loves laying on top of it. I never thought she would love it more than her expensive trees but she absolutely does. Also, we attached a small toy to the post. There are numerous things you can do to make this even better for your cat, although it is perfectly fine on its own! In conclusion, this is a great scratching post and I cannot believe how cheap it is compared to others! It might just solve your problem if your cat wont stop scratching all your furniture! It absolutely solved mine. One more thing - my cat plays hard on this post and uses it multiple times a day. It has held up extremely well and has never once toppled over!

I've purchased quite a few cat scratchers and this one seems to be the best of the lot. The design and weight makes it strong enough to standalone without additional weights required at the base. The cat can attack it without risk of tipping over or moving. So far the Sisal material has not started shedding. Other scratchers made from other materials started shedding about a week into use. Fingers crossed this one lasts more than 3 months. Let's hope I get what I paid for - top quality that will last for a few years at least.
