No use as speakers, but great fun educational kit for kids
Bought these for my kids to assemble . Good all round kit with a good range of things to solder on for the kids. The instructions are quite good and include a schematic as well as a component layout. The only thing that’s missing from the instructions are that the two potentiometers for volume and LED sensitivity are different and if installed the wrong way, the volume will be very low. Most components are through hole apart from the amplifier IC, which goes on the reverse side of the board. This was too fiddly for the kids, but no problem if you are used to soldering SMDs.The volume out of the speakers is very low. This is expected as the amp is only 2w. No use as speakers if you want to actually use them to listen to music, but a great educational tool for the price.

Fun project, couple of omissions in the manual
A great project for me and the kids.As it’s a review I will list my gripes, but these shouldn’t take away that these little speakers are a good educational / fun experience especially for supervised kids.Only a few minor gripes, here they are.The instructions lack being specific on where about to mount the two potentiometers, which I changed around to see if they made any significant difference. It didn’t as far as I could tell the speakers are generally quite quiet. The construction of the case doesn’t highlight the wire path which makes assembly quite easy to get wrong, the wires go though a slightly bigger notch in the back of the case where the board is mounted, it’s about twice the size and rounded when compared to the other construction notches. The surface mount IC could do with being a through hole as it’s very fiddly for small inexperienced assemblers, I’d say the most tricky part of the build.I wish the amp used in the kit had more chooch, it’s just a bit quiet, it’s similar to laptop speakers / perhaps a bit quieter. This isn’t all bad though as my daughter kept playing music on it for quite some time after assy...The instructions are ok, they could be clearer, I’ve definitely had worse, a longer list of simpler activities would be a big improvement.Overall - Good fun! Simple! Instructions could be improved.

You will need a helping hands with a built on magnifying glass
The IC chip was difficult to solder being so small, could have been better if there was a socket to put on first which could be soldered from the back.

Meh.
Came with a defected chip, 2 of the pins were broken off and not in the box. I can't say how it sounds but it looks nice at least.

Five Stars
Nice sound, would be nice if the small IC would be presoldred.
