Pocket Bike Maintenance: Step-by-step guide to bicycle repairs

So-so, missing key information
I was hoping this book would be a good emergency book - how to fix problems on the road - otherwise why do you need a pocket sized book? Instead it only has a small section on emergency road repairs. Most of the rest of the book is covered in larger format books that are much easier to read with more photos. It also seems to be missing key information. I had a problem with my disc brakes rubbing. Brakes rubbing are a common problem and I would expect to be well-covered in a book like this. I could not find out what to do (but found a good video on You Tube). The solution is so simple it should have been in the book. If it is I couldn't find it, which also makes it less than useful.

A very handy book to have in your saddlebag.
As I have not rode a bike for some years it is a good book to read and recap on my knowledge on maintaining my bike.

Indispensable
For me, as a hobbyist self-taught bicycle mechanic who regularly fixes and maintains the three commuter bikes in my household, this book is indispensable. It covers almost everything you need to care for and repair your bike. Not only does it provide clear instructions for the basics like sorting out your brakes and indexing your gears, it also gives helpful advice on keeping your bike in good condition with the minimum time and effort.I chose this book because it covers how to fix issues that have come up with my hybrid (at the time of purchase, changing the cable in my twist-shifter), is small and light enough to fit comfortably into my bag on long trips (just in case), and is cheaper than the bigger books that, quite frankly, intimidated me at the time. The photos are clear enough that you can see what you're supposed to be doing. The only things it doesn't cover that I needed to know (the Internet stepped in) were replacing a freewheel (not cassette), and straightening a rear derailleur hanger, but you can't fit everything into under 200 pages that fit into a large coat pocket. The text is quite small, with letters being under 3mm tall, so if you wear reading glasses you will need them.True, you could find most of the information online, but in book form, it's all in order, works when you have no Internet (camping, stranded, or just with rubbish broadband), and is unbiased and ad-free. In short, it's dependable. If you, or the intended reader of this book is confident with an Allen key and would like to be able to do more of your/their own bicycle maintenance, this book is ideal. It's reassuring to know that your bike is well-tuned, and that you can sort out your brakes or deal with a puncture a long way from home, especially if you're nowhere near a bike shop. This book would make an excellent gift for teenagers too, or any mechanically-minded person with a bicycle.

Easy to understand and follow
Looking through the book when it arrived it has excellent photos and instructions and also explains any pitfalls that may occur. It's also more up-to-date than my old 1990,s Haynes book.
