Poor depiction of the Bible
I was looking forward to watching this series of the Bible, but was greatly disappointed. I suppose there is only so much you can fit into 45 minutes, the approximate length of each episode. However, if you know your Bible well, do not expect an accurate depiction of it here. The scenes and words spoken by the main characters are all jumbled up and inaccurate, (ie John the Baptist was not beheaded because Herod thought he was the Messiah, he was beheaded because of Salome). This is a shame as the acting is very good. If the scriptwriter had given the main character's their dialogues or kept it as close as possible to that of the Bible, then this series would have been more credible. But instead it's a big confused mess. In parts it left me saying "well that's not what it says in the Bible" or "no he/she/they didn't do that".Another thing is that there is a lot of violence. Once again if the scriptwriter had given more weight to the accuracy of the Bible, which is the main dish, and not the side dishes, then this series would have come highly recommend.

Solid production and a preview into the treasures idecisions the Book
This production brings a true account of the historical books of the Bible - and it does so admirably. The characters and dynamics are brought to live in a way that has poetic licence but yet stays aligned to how the historical author's accounts. It gives a sense of how the people, places, kings, slaves and of course, Jesus the Messiah lived. This isn't meant to replace the reading of the bible, but it can certainly help give the framework to make greater sense of the complex, messy situations and life actions of the individual characters in their environments. The bible documents immense hope and prophecies in God's dealings with mankind, but it also doesn't hold back in terms of the good, bad and the ugly of man's sinfulness. This production manages to capture these.Overall, this is well worth watching and to me, the DVD gives the viewer a greater accessibility into the factual narratives and still-relevant truths contained in the books of the Bible written over two thousand years.

An interesting attempt to present an enormous, wide-ranging story
The background story which flows through this series is the work of God offering salvation to the human race. Given the size of the Bible the producers have had to be selective in the parts they have chosen to include. I might not have made the same selection, but that doesn't mean that mine would be better! There does seem to be a lot of violence; but there is violence, especially in the Old Testament; and the producers may well have felt that today's viewers want a measure of violence. There are points at which the narrative is not strictly in accordance with that of the Bible, and some Christians would be put off by that; but in general such points in the film are still compilations of biblical material, if not necessarily entirely from the particular story that is being presented. This is a good attempt to present the whole story within a limited space, but should not be treated as the whole truth on its own.

Exceeded all Expectations!!! Truly Inspiring!
When it comes to movies about Jesus and the saints etc. I've always been very skeptical, especially when it comes to contemporary media. Having said that, I decided to take a chance on 'the Bible' after seeing a short clip on YouTube.I was completely blown away by the quality, special effects etc. but most importantly by the cast, who were amazing at acting! The depiction of the story of Abraham was truly inspiring, as was the telling of Kind David. Unfortunately, I wasn't as keen on the new testament part of the series, particularly the scenes with Jesus.Although, there are a few good episodes in the New Testament, Jesus is portrayed as hippy-type figure by an actor who can't really act - which is a shame because the rest of the cast are superb! Overall a good series that gives new insight into the book we know as the bible!

Good acting but inaccurate
I was intrigued, however disappointed for this is not true to the holy bible and scriptures. Please! Do not rely on this mini series for teachings consult your Bible instead, there are many apps out there available & free, such as YouVersion which as well as the bible has teachings & videos, there is a kids version as well.

The best series explaining the Christian bible in full.
This is the best introduction for anyone wishing to understand the Christian bible. It shows the history from the very beginning of time and the second set of DVDs explain Jesus Christ's life on earth, the miracles he performed, his prophecies and how he commissioned his disciples to bring his good news from the Gospels to all nations. This series is life transforming.
