It's comes with mains that connects to turntable

Yes. you can use either one or both speakers. The only thing is one speaker runs on electricity and doesn't have a battery. The other one does.

Q: I can only get them to work on there own ??

Should be 2 different Bluetooth connections. You need the one that says duo X2. Try hitting - and the Bluetooth symbol on both speakers.... Not sure if that is the correct buttons to pair them together but it seems to work.
