can the oil container be removed for cleaning?

No it can't.. And it only does one potatoe of chips at a time... Other words it's really small?

No and no, although it is so small that once it has been emptied it is no bother to wipe clean.I made the mistake of switching mine on when it had no oil in it, it burned itself out, I threw it away.This cooker is so small it is only good for one small portion of chips, but it did work well before I ruined it

Can you use dripping instead of oil?

You would need to melt the dripping first and empty before it sets again otherwise the fryer will burn out.

How do you remove lid for cleaning

I bought this for some-one else, so I don't know. I would hazard a guess and say that the lid does not come off. To clean it you probably have to do a regular wipe clean and not put the unit in water!
