I haven't had this issue. However, I secured the splitter and pipes up on the wall behind my dishwasher and washing machine - so that gravity prevents any backflow of water through the splitter. Hope this helps.

I just cut a suitable length from one of the appliance drain hoses and then secured with jubilee clips - has been fine.

No , but it depends on the positioning of your waste pipe. I connect both dishwasher and washing machine to the same waste pipe using this and it’s been fine . Just make sure it doesn’t pop out of the waste or you flood .
