Keep Calm: The New Mum's Manual , with an introduction by Jools Oliver, is the perfect antidote to inflexible, guilt-inducing parenting guides. Turning the tables on encyclopaedic tomes on parenthood and their often conflicting advice, GP and mum-of-two Dr Ellie will empower you to relax, trust your instincts and enjoy your new baby. Includes: * Early days – looking after baby and listening to your instincts * Sleeping – establishing a flexible routine that works * Feeding – making the right, guilt-free choices * Soothing – understanding crying and settling your baby * Weaning – starting with a simple action plan for success * Development – identifying key milestones and not worrying * Health – recognising baby illnesses and when to call the doctor * Vaccinations – understanding the facts and getting them without tears This isn't a one-size-fits-all routine but a lighthearted, sensible guide that is full of essential advice to build your confidence and bring back mummy power. Review: Excellent handbook for a new mother. - Easy to read, supportive, sensible and comprehensible advice from Dr Ellie. I bought this in hardback for my daughter (who will soon be a first time mother) to be able to refer to as and when she needs to do so. The lay out is easy to navigate and makes the book easy to dip into for particular topics; it covers the essential areas (and Dr E is very clear about what these are) in enough detail without it becoming overwhelming. Important points are duly emphasised with clear explanations of the reasoning. Review: Quick, simple and non-judgmental - A really quick read that would be useful for any person who feels a little bit afraid of the idea of being a mother, whether u are pregnant, hope to be soon, or have recently had a baby. It all seems so simple. This book will give you a framework to put all the other useful and useless information into as you are bombarded with it.

Putting Mum in the driving seat
I bought this book for my daughter-in-law just before she had her first baby. She found it really interesting at first - but now she's a new mum, she finds it invaluable. The excellent, sensible and down to earth advice offered by Dr Ellie Cannon has been a Godsend during those inevitable worries about breast feeding and crying and wondering if she's 'doing it right'. Her reply to a question nowadays is usually "I'll just have a look and see what Dr Ellie says". Definitely a huge help for any new mum because it puts mum in the driving seat and makes her realise that she doesn't have to do what everyone else does. If it's right for her and right for her baby then it's the correct thing to do. Marvellous!

Honest and encouraging
I spent ages looking through the kindle shop when I was pregnant for a book to help support and guide me through my first baby. This book is great, the author doesn't preach, doesn't give strict rules or complex hints. She writes mainly from the perspective of a mum with the confidence and knowledge of a Dr. I found it easy to read and felt empowered by the end. You have everything your baby will need, you just need to recognise it! It was a good confidence builder and I look back at it when I need guidance and reassurance.

Some insightful bits throughout but not a masterpiece
I like that author is empowering the mom and helping her by keeping the rules to minimum but at times it felt very repetitive especially as it kept repeating trust yourself, your instincts. Repeated in every chapter quite a bit. But where there were genuine advices I liked it, weaning chapter, postnatal chapter and sleep chapter were particularly insightful.

Ignore everyone else and trust this book!
Truly excellent book, easy and quick to read but had such a powerful effect on me and my ability to trust my own instincts as a first time mum. Especially when faced with lots of ‘well meaning’ advice from all corners. Still referring to it nearly six months in, it covers all the important points.

Trust your instincts
Don't get me wrong It's a good book but pretty much every page says "trust your instincts". I could have just stuck those words on a wall and not bothered reading the book.

The beat book to Keep Calm
Great book. Bought it while little one was ony a week old and its very helpful. All that was covered during the ante natal classes was the birth and first few days. This book covers so much more and really helped my wife and I to understand and stay calm if things weren't "text book". I think its a must read for new parents. Definitely recommend.
