My First Sewing Machine Book: Learn To Sew: Kids

Great 'Little' book
Purchased this very little thin book for my soon to be 9 G.Daughter, initially was very surprised at how very thin it was (thinner than a daily newspaper) but the content is so good with easy to follow instructions and she was in it from the first page & tested me on the quiz pages to see if I really did know what I was talking about (luckily for me I did get the questions right. We will be photocopying the test pages as suggested and her and her two friends will be practising the exercises on the paper (good job I have a good supply of needles), I will be buying another copy for her Auntie who needed a few reminders on how & what to do with the sewing machine I got her for her birthday last year (she's in her late 40s.) Overall I rate it highly but knock off a star because it needs a bit more substance sizewise.

Great starter book.
I think some of the lower star reviews here are unfair. For starters, the product description tells you accurately how many patterns are included, so complaining about that after you buy the item really only makes it look like you didn't properly read the given info before you purchased- The title of the book is 'Learn to Sew' not 'Sewing pattern book'.This is a lovely little book. I've bought my 9 year old daughter a sewing machine for christmas and since I'm completely clueless in that area, I wanted something that will explain things to her from a very basic starting point, whilst giving her some simple projects to work on in order to build up her confidence. The book, in my opinion, is very informative. It starts by explaining to the reader how to set up and use their sewing machine, and contains several pages for you to photocopy in order to practice different patterns and stitches. It explains about 'wrong and right' sides of fabric and how to use them, and provides a list of what to have in your starter sewing kit (I found this list very useful as I'm also putting together a kit for her). It's bright and colourful and written in a way that children will understand and appreciate and be able to follow with no difficulty. It's more of an instruction book than a pattern book, but I knew that when I bought it and I bought it for that reason. The patterns it does have are very nice, simple, easy and basic, they are the perfect starting patterns for a child who is just learning. I'm very pleased with it.

Bought for granddaughter at Christmas. She was very happy with it!!
Grandaughter had received a sewing machine for her Christmas present. This was a book that would hopefully help her learn the basic skills of making items.

Really like the book but a little bit expensive.
Our daughters first sewing machine has arrived and I needed a book to help us get started. I liked the look of this book for a complete beginner and the content has lived up to expectations. However, it is a very small and thin paperback but it does have a lot of useful information in it. Because it is a thin and bendy book it feels expensive

Perfect for anyone learning to sew
I bought this for my 12 year old grandaughter as I had bought her a sewing maching for Christmas. She was very pleased with it and can't wait to get started on the projects. I particularly like the way it is written in a very clear, instructive way.

This is great for Adults too!
Im 37 years old just bought my first sewing machine and am clueless so decided what the hell i'll buy this book. Yes it's written for kids but its a brilliant book for beginners. Its simple to follow the pictures are super clear to follow and there are some really cute projects in the back to get you started. In addition it even has pages you can photocopy and use to practice doing straight lines and waves and turns. I like it because it isn't bogged down with lots of technical mumbo jumbo and unnecessary info for complete beginners it just gets you to the nitty gritty so you can get started sewing straight away. Would definately recommend and don't be put off that its for kids its great for any age.
