Explorers all the way
Well I already love catan so expansions make me happy. I played the original Catan for many years and for my birthday last year my mum purchased an expansion- only it was for the "rivals" so i bought the rivals. This sparked my 11 year old to play with me, new and shiny cards, not the dull old game I played. He loved it, loved The Ear of Darkness so we eagerly awaited this. We love this too.If it only contained the Explorers it would still be worth the money. It adds are really good element to the game. You have 9 "sea" tiles. Some contain pirates- bad, some contain islands, - ok, 2 contain shipwrecks- good easy money. To get to them you need "sail" points, which means more buildings, using your few building spaces is risky, but level up a pirate or an island and hey presto you have VP. So do you explore or build expensive "red" city expansions? It is never an easy choice and can cause very close run games. The person behind can sometimes win 3 VP in one go by using their ships well.Sages - has some very useful "characters" but i am afraid to say is underused and we tend to go for explorers each time. It works well with gold and merchants. But playing with a little boy- he like fighting.Prosperity- This has grown on me, not the immediate hit explorers was but the prosperity cards led me to a win the other day so it has gone up in my estimation. The "art work" cards are a tad odd as they take up space in the deck and we dont really go down building the "royalty" to use them. Some of the city expansions are really good and the stars are really useful, so get a star building card down quick and you are sorted. Star building cards are "receive a star each time commerce is rolled" or "plentiful harvest is rolled" etc. Stars can be traded for resources - and they take up no space in your empire.

great game
delivered next day, along with the other expansion, sadly without the main game, so I have not been able to test it as of yet, but having played the game before, I'm certain I will enjoy it

This is a "Must Have" Expansion!
My wife and I play the Rivals of Catan weekly or so. We love the game and have the base set, this expansion and the Age of Darkness expansion. The Era of Explorers version of this game in this set is great, the water and the ships add an extra dimension to the game. We love it. We have not played the Era of Prosperity yet, but we do like the Era of Sages as well!An excellent addition to the base game! A must have! Adds a new dimension to the rivals game without being too complicated. Really happy we purchased this.

Pirates, Treasure, Exploration
This expansion to Rivals for Catan is great. The new age of exploration set makes this worth it all alone. The designers have done a great job of making each expansion feel and play different. A very worthwhile purchase for a Rivals fan!

Best expansion for Rivals of Catan
Great expansion for rivals of Catan. Adds a lot of new gameplay elements to an already excellent game. The only downside is the box doesn't include card separations.

3 games for the price of 1!
My husband and I LOVE playing the various games that come when you add this Age of Enlightenment expansion pack to the Rivals for Catan game. These games run on the expensive side, but you do get a lot for your money. Each of the 3 games included in the expansion pack has several new rules, as well as a whole stack of new cards to totally change up the original game, so it is like getting 3 new games for the price of 1.

Worth it for the pirates expansion.
Our favorite expansion is the pirates - adds a great level of adventure to the game. Highly recommended if you enjoy this card game. The other expansions are OK in comparison, fun but not as good as pirates.
