How do I tell which is the upper and which is the lower? I don't see any markings.

Hello Steven, The Lower arch has the brackets (where you push the bars into) near the front arch part of the device. The Upper arch has the brackets near the very back part of the device. Hope this helps, Dr. Spainhower
