I needed to replace some broken or scratched Portmeirion plates – some were over 30 years old. A few belonged to my father and were about 50 years old!! A real testament to their quality. These plates are extremely hard-wearing and tough. They are over a quarter of an inch (6mm) thick and so quite heavy. The glaze is very thick and shiny, giving good protection to the pattern. They are microwave, dishwasher, freezer and oven friendly, attractive and very long-lasting. Overall, they are extraordinarily high quality. The plates I purchased were identical diameter to my originals, they even stack together precisely. In my experience there are only three ways to damage these plates. Place it on a hot vitroceramic hob which will crack it, drop it onto a stone floor or use an electric carving knife on it (even this strong glazing will be damaged). Otherwise these plates are virtually indestructible!

i needed to replace two Portmeirion Botanic plates but ended up buying this set of six. Amazon's price made it cheaper to do this than to track down only two as it appears the pattern in becoming increasingly difficult to find. We were unexpectedly delighted with this purchase and the wonderful variety of designs. This is good, practical china that goes in the dishwasher and, despite my two accidents on a stone floor, the plates are very hard-wearing. Not everyone likes Portmeirion Botanic but we find the variety of flowers charming. The set arrived on time and in excellent condition.

The 6 plates are superb. Unfortunately my shipment arrived significantly shattered due to insufficient packaging, I believe. The seller and Amazon Customer Service were both individually extremely good in dealing with the problem with me and this really was great. I bought a replacement set because the set was so attractive. Thank you to the seller and to Amazon for turning around a sticky and frustrating situation.

They are what they are. If you are a user of Portmeirion crockery you'll know what to expect, and they are a good price. Lost one star in rating as one plate had a fault in the writing - is a second being sold without giving that info?

You cannot go wrong with these. We bought our first large set of Portmeirion Botanic Garden dishes, assorted bowls, mugs, serving dishes, etc. back in 1982 on our honeymoon in Bermuda. They are beautiful and have held up, almost all of them are into their fourth decade. Gradually, we have had to replace several that were under daily use from losses due accidents - and only a few due to age. Not bad in terms of decades of use, going from the oven to table and thousands of dishwasher cycles. Instead of the regular Botanicals my wife elected to try out the Exotic Botanic Garden variety. These blend in well with the regular botanical dishes with perhaps a little more flare. Otherwise, they remain the same in terms of beauty, quality and longevity. We use them for everyday dining and for entertaining. - JPK
