Great whistle, unused at the moment which is good and hopefully never used. LOL. Great quality and looks vibrant and the part. I would certainly recommend it as it is easy to use and lightweight. Great value for money and recommended hands down. Go for it

Simple, loud and effective This whistle does exactly what it’s meant to do. It’s very loud, easy to blow and the bright colour makes it easy to spot in a bag or if you drop it outdoors. The lanyard is a useful extra and makes it easy to keep around your neck or attached to a rucksack. It feels well made and reassuring to carry for walking or outdoor trips. Nothing fancy, just a solid bit of safety kit that works properly when you need it.

Bought to clip onto my rucksack strap for emergencies. All being well, it'll end up as a fashion accessory that I never use and I suppose for that purpose it does the job! Makes me look at least somewhat prepared for the mountain at least! For the actual proper use, I can see it would do the job well. From some testing it emits an incredibly loud two-tone signal that would definitely be heard for a long distance. Be sure to familiarise yourself with the standard distress signal (6 whistles every minute) and how to respond to it (although bear in mind responding to it can often lead to the distressed to stop whistling so you and/or mountain rescue can't find them, so be VERY careful before responding). Advice in the hills is to not wear anything on a lanyard as it can get caught if you fall. So remove the lanyard and carabiner it to your bag strap please. Coming in a two pack is nice as I can put one on both rucksacks.

Why carry a whistle? I've just been reading about how Dr Michael Mosely died. He managed to get to the perimeter fence of a beach restaurant and collapsed. If only he had had a whistle, he might have had time to send out an SOS message as he was stumbling down the hill. It might just have saved his life. I determined there and then to carry a whistle around my neck at all times. I'm just a tiny bit disappointed in this. It's loud when blown hard and will certainly be heard from a good distance. But the sound isn't quite right: it sounds like a plastic whistle. I'd been hoping for something that sounded more like the old-fashioned police whistle. This might be me being silly, but I feel that the original police whistle carries a tone-message that says, "this is serious, I need assistance." The one I have here doesn't quite have that sound about it, but it's still two-toned so won't get confused with a dog whistle. I'm absolutely sure that it would call attention if you fell down a gully or your outboard motor failed at night in the Bristol channel or you were hanging upside down in a parachute caught in a tree. So it will serve its purpose in an emergency ... and that's what you really care about. So I probably am being picky. I'll give this to my dog-owning son to call his dog. I've bitten the bullet and bought a more expensive brass whistle made by Acme: a copy of the original police whistle, which has very good feedback on Amazon. I'm getting on a bit now, so it will be around my neck like a Saint Christopher for the rest of my life. Summary: good enough to be heard from a good distance, but not quite the right <urgent> sound.
