My First Book of Girl Power (DC Super Heroes Board Books, 8) : Rucker, Georgia: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Double win: Excellent for DC fan parents AND for building positive role model and self image in young girls. - This book has quickly become one of our 3 year olds favourites after mummy wanted some stronger role models to diffuse the messages of Princesses such as Belle and Cinderella. The universally known DC characters of Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Supergirl are alongside others such as Hawkgirl with a simple double spread on each character about staying who they are, what their powers are and how that makes them a good friend or great role model such as Batgirl loving to read. The book begins and ends with double spreads showing the female characters together and emphasising how great girls are and how powerful they can be and how they can be even more powerful when they help each other and work together. This is a great message for girls as it focuses on the girls and their strengths not as sidekicks to male superheroes, or interests in boys or romances and if these characters spoke it would definitely pass the Bechdel test as opposed to the princessey books that usually refer to being saved by or being romantically linked to a prince of some kind. My daughter has just got into watching some DC cartoons and these are recognisable characters in their classic comic/graphic novel depictions as opposed to their film, television, cartoon or LEGO representations which makes it enjoyable for DC fans or a little collectable of female superheroes. This book is beloved by my daughter and has encouraged her to look for similar type books including the DC superfriends series which show cooperation and positive female role models (alongside boys too) without focusing on romances and being pretty, I just wish I'd found this series earlier! Review: A great book for both my daughter and my son - A great book for both my daughter and my son. They both really love superheroes and don't care whether they're male or female! This is a colourful, easy to read book with each page about a superhero like Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Bumblebee and some less well known ones too. It's empowering too, applauding their characteristics, like being clever, inventive and kind. My kids want to look at it again and again.

Love it! Great book of empowering women
Totally a key text if you have a daughter! Got to get those powerful women influencing them at a young age. I think on one page it says something like "HawkGirl helps heal those who are hurt".... which, if you have seen the animated Justice League series, you might suspect that she was the one that hurt them in the first place. Great book

Nice to have a book that wasn't focused on how ...
Lovely book with a lovely message! Showing little girls that they can be strong women and use their "super powers" (helping behaviours). Nice to have a book that wasn't focused on how they look (e.g. The beautiful princess) or where they needed a man to save them (e.g. Damsel in distress)

Great
My daughter absolutely loves this book. She is only 7 months old but holds it herself and even turns the pages. The pictures are great and keep her attention. I've seen reviews of similar books saying they're a bit sexist but this one encourages girls to know that they can be strong and save the world too. A great introduction to the superhero/comic book world
