Q: If you scan a stray pet and a number comes up, how do you find out who owns the pet?

It should be registered on a DEFRA compliant database. All the databases are linked in with each other, so if you search the chip on one of them, it will automatically search all the others and should tell you which database it's registered at. Some of the databases will give you some contact details for the owner or allow you to contact them, but most will not unless you're a vet, dog warden etc., so you may need to take the animal to a vet. Here is a list of DEFRA compliant databases: https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-microchipped But I would recommend https://www.checkachip.com/ because as well as being part of a DEFRA compliant database, it also checks some international databases that a chip could be on.

Q: These posts are a few years old. Do these scanners still read Biothem chips to give a body temp reading?

Yes they do read Bio-therm chips and display the animals body temperature.

Q: I live in Spain, will this chip reader read chips that have been put in by vets in Spain?

I woud have thought so ,but I could not be sure.could you ask you vet .I think they are international .my horses that go for expot have british chips in and they would have to be readable intheir new homes.
