Flicker Free Dimming, With Slight Delay
This Dimmer switch is easy to install thanks to the simple instructions. However, if you aren't comfortable doing like for like replacements, get an electrician to fit for you.Pros:- Interchangeable knobs give you a choice of a silver or white finish (the metal capped one actually looks better than expected)- Good range of dimming with LED lights, enabling different moods to be easily created- Flicker free dimming with LED light- Easily fitted- Doesn't require a 35mm back box like some switches- Looks good- Competitively pricedCons:- There is a slight delay when switching the light on or dimming (this has been my experience with many trailing edge dimmers though)Pleased with this purchase and will be buying more

Did the job...
Did the job - in conjunction with some dimmable LEDs - that I bought it for. As the choice of this type of dimmer was limited (at least when considering positive reviews) I bought it assuming the chrome knob would detach - which it did. Really easy to set up, the instructions are clear and the unit was solidly built. I'd recommend it.Don't be fooled by the four stars - I think it's a great item - I just can't '5 stars - love it' to what is essentially a switch.

Initial impression very favourable
Seems to be the main brand currently available for LED dimmers and made in Britain to boot. I paid a couple of pounds extra for this version with the aluminium button, but that's purely personal preference. I'm using it to control a 34W fitting and it works a treat. As you may be aware there are some clever electronics inside which give two options for LED usage - Mode 1 (default) & Mode 3. It's easy to switch between the two - but only if you know the secret 'combination' - so read (and retain!) the instructions or look at the [somewhat protracted] video on the Varilight website first. I tried my fitting on both settings out of curiosity and frankly didn't notice a lot of difference (a bit like being at the opticians and being asked which is better - the green or the red...), but for what it's worth ended up with the Mode 3 variant.

Works well, but.....
As LEDs are a relatively new subject I had to rely on the description of this switch to make sure it was suitable for my light units which had 8 dimmable LEDs in two fittings. It was connected reasonably easily and worked fine after I had programmed it to Mode 2, which gave the amount of dimming I desired (very low light). My one concern regards the nut which holds the switch unit to the back plate (Under the knob) To my surprise this is only held in place by about one turn of the nut, which seems far too little. It has held in place, but due mainly to the fact that the body of the switch is fairly hard up against the back of the backplate. The knob needs to be pushed to switch the circuit on and off, so the puts pressure againt this not, and I feel it may fail at any time.A design re-think me thinks!

Works for few months only...
Bought two. Worked well for few months. One of them started flickering and making humming noices two months back. Works fine after switching off and on again. But now completely useless. Just works in dim mode only. Doesn't work if dinmer is turned up for full bright light.

Crucial Programmable driver Modes
It was vitally important to have 3 programmable driver modes (2 x Trailing-edge and 1 x Leading-edge) to ensure that dimmable LED bulbs I had purchased did not flicker at all except the brightest setting, for both of my 10-bulb chandelier lights. These are top quality switches which do not have generate any noise as some others do.One of the two switches I had ordered was faulty in not being able to be switch off/on, although it will still dim the LED bulbs. It was promptly replaced by the UK manufacturer which arrived in the post just before Christmas day!N/BUnlike dimming tungsten bulbs by just reducing the current supplied, dimming LED bulbs with it's integrated electronics is achieved by switching off and not supplying any electricity for part(s) of the AC cycles. As AC cycles 50 times a second, our eyes can't see this and a dimming effect is achieved. This dimmer switches 2 "trailing edge" driving modes and 1 "leading edge" driving mode set assures that I can use the greatest range of dimmable LED bulbs. In living/bedroom areas where mood lighting is preferable, dimmable lighting is very important to myself and worth the trouble to get right. These dimmer switches can also have the dimmest lighting level and the brightest to be adjusted. The lowest level has the most effect in setting the mood for me.Hope this extra information has been useful?

Not very good product
Well there are few problems with this item. The light level does not go low enough for my liking (and I know LEDs can go lower). I know you can program this switch to different low levels but the lowest one is not low enough. It is steeped adjustment rather then continuous. The silver button top has come loose after about a month and that is in the bedroom where it gets very little use. When you turn the switch on and it is maximum light level setting it does not come on with the maximum light - it steps quickly from the lowest to the highest level.

Pretty Good
Good switch. I installed it to replace a bathroom on/off switch so that I could dim some new R80 bulbs in my ensuite as the previous bulbs were far too bright, especially during a night-time trip ...It took a few shots of trying out the programming to get it working the bulbs properly, but the instructions explained what to do OK.Not 5 stars because there is a bit of delay in it switching the bulbs on, and there is a very short bright flicker from the bulbs just when the dimmer is switched on.
