Is it compatible with windows xp and with windows 8.1?

Can't be sure about XP, but surely Win 8 and Win 10

I plan to use on a pc not internet enabled. so is this plug and play or woud i need to download operating system?

The scanner was supplied with a dvd, with the option to download latest version online.

Is it possible to see the image on the computer screen before deciding whether or not to scan? Other scanners seem to have a screen built in.

I use VueScan software with the Plustek 8200iAi and it enables me to preview an image on my computer before committing to a scan.

Does this model include motorized batch scanning

No it doesn't. The slide holder holds four slides
