The porta-potti is extremely helpful in daily life
This is a fantastic item. Didn't take long to set up. Once you've put the pink deodoriser fluid in with the flush water and pump it through the system it leaves a pleasant smell behind. Blue cleaning fluid mixed with a small amount of water coating the bottom of the waste tank mixes with the deodoriser when used again neutralising any smell. (Easy and quick to empty and rinse out. Please see update at the end). Perfect for any occasion where a toilet is required. PS. Don't wait until you have used it to empty it. It's not difficult but practice is required to get the waste fluid to go where you want it to, into the toilet. Practice with water a few times, trust me, I speak from experience. UPDATE the end of July 2025 Now I have experienced the ease of use when using it - pee only. I can also say i know the drawbacks but I've managed it like this - hope it helps. First try disastrous - I separated it and took the base to my house toilet to empty. Did as suggested in pamphlet used the out pipe, tilted it into the toilet and all hell broke loose. Do you know how when you pour fizzy 2 litres of anything and you get that glug, glug, glug thing going on but it's ok cause it's a 2 litre bottle and you can control it. Well, up-size it with a larger exit and no control. IT WENT EVERYWHERE, EVERYWHERE MAKERS ARE YOU LISTENING. I have PTSD from that day. So the next time I tied a black bin bag to the bottom of the exit pipe, cut off the bottom of the black bag so that it was like a sleeve. I also held the bag against the exit hole to seal the liquid as I tilted the pipe the toilet. It worked well but was really fiddly trying to balance everything. The black bag was a bit long so it took a few tries cut it to the right length. For a different set up I also had to adapt as it was too far to carry the base. I got a few wide lidded Gerry cans that was more mobile, 5 litres or up, easy to carry, only fill 3/4 of the way to avoid the glug experience, so take a deep breath and pour slow. I got the liquid into the gerry cans with a long hose petrol siphon with a hand held squeeze control. More things to clean out but easier to move around than a toilet base with liquid. It really depends how far you need to go and how much weight you can carry in order to empty it. Plus organise some sort of hose system to wash/rinse all of the stuff used, toilet base centre hole and exit pipe, gerry cans and petrol siphon if used. It really helps with odour control. Get gloves, wear glasses, block your nose and wish for the best. Good luck. P.S Makers - did you not think this through or do any practice runs on this. Why did you not include a secure grip latch lock with a rubber material long enough to control where the liquid goes or even a flexible hose type extension that could use the screw on bit that the cap uses. It's not rocket science, step up your game. Other than that it's great 👍 November 2025 Update Finally found my stride but it's taken until now. It's also taken a toll as the porta Potti was being used in the household as a commode for someone suffering from incontinence. Emptying, cleaning and refilling the water tank took great effort and a strong stomach as the smell lingers and emptying it is something I no longer want to do. It's not nice. So I started using lavender commode liners and lavender absorbent pads. It meant that I bypassed all of the Emptying, refilling and the smell. Instead I have a bin with a click closed seal

Excellent quality - a must have for camping
Super happy with my purchase. As others have said, it's best not to flush loo roll down it, and if you must, then use the special loo roll you can get that disintegrates more easily and won't cause clogs. I take dog mess bags camping with me and put used tissue inside, tie up and toss into the rubbish bag. The capacity is excellent, just what I was looking for, for 5-day camping trips with no chemical disposal points on site(!). It's easy to use, feels well made and sturdy and the flush works well (one quick sharp press works best). Before buying some reviews mentioned it is quite low down, I don't think it is, but perhaps if I was older with mobility issues I might feel differently? Even after 5 days of use, I don't get any smells from this camp loo which is brilliant and I got no leaks at all either (which alarmingly I'd seen people mention happening with other models of camp loo - yuck!), in fact transporting it home full and disposing of it at home is easy, though after 5 days it's pretty heavy to carry! One tip, if you are emptying it at home, you'll want to tip the waste pipe very slowly towards the toilet bowl, otherwise you'll get all the waste rushing out and splashback will occur (yep, it happened to me, I learned from my mistake FAST!) so just tip it towards the loo very slowly. If you're using a proper chemical disposal point it will be much easier and as there is usually a drop, so splashback shouldn't be an issue. That leads me on to cleaning it. Do make sure you use the right chemicals with it - these stop any nasty smells in use, but they do leave the loo once empty smelling a bit weird/unpleasant, so it's a good idea to make sure you give it a thorough wash out then I leave mine open to air for a few days. Once empty, I basically rinse mine a few times and tip into the loo, before spraying the inside with anti-bac spray and showering the whole thing down and leaving it open to air. Emptying and cleaning it really isn't my favourite job in the world, but I'd rather do that than have the hassle of traipsing across a field to the loo several times each night! Anyway, it's a great camp loo, miles better than the cheaper, smaller model I previously had (and got rid of as it clogged endlessly) and I only wish I'd invested in this sooner! I simply would not camp without it now!

Wouldn't be without it!
After thinking whether we should, whether we shouldn't, we decided to buy a Porta Potti for our Campervan. Simply, it was the one of the best decisions we have made regarding the camper. It slots in nice and discreetly (we have it in a small box unit we use as a seat). It is so reassuring to have it, especially as we tend to go out for drives in the countryside where there are few, if any, facilities. Being a lady of a certain age it is a godsend and hubby has made good use of it too! It is very easy to carry empty, and if like us you will be emptying after every trip, you only need to put 2 litres of water in the tank and 2 litres in the flush, which is ample, and it is still easy to carry. The toilet can take 5-10 litres in both but we found that way too much for just the two of us and made it practically too heavy to carry. Using the solutions for the tank and the flush make it very pleasant to use and there is absolutely no smell at all, even when emptying. Very easy to clean/rinse out. It is very sturdy. As I have arthritic knee issues and cannot bend well, I have had no problem using it, even though it does seem very low at first. The bonus about one of these is that it can also be used in the home as a back-up or in a room for people who may be less mobile and cannot get to a toilet quickly. Don't take as long to decide as we did, you will not regret it.

Very sturdy loo.
Apart from having to clean it out, there's not much I don't like about this loo. Generally used as an emergency loo, I got this when there was talk of not being able to use campsite facilities during covid19 restrictions. I've taken this along every visit so far and had it inside a loo/shower tent and it fits perfectly with enough space for you to feel comfortable when sitting or standing. I've been using the all in one chemical liquid for both the flush and the lower tank. Generally, even with just using it for emergencies, I emptied and cleaned it every 3 to 4 days. From my research, I saw someone say a family of 4 used it for a weekend camping trip for everything and it still wasn't full by the end (sorry if you're reading this over breakfast). It's fairly easy to clean. Hot water is best and I used a bacterial soap to swill around in it too. Unfortunately, there's a fair few nooks and crannies to get in to but it's fairly good at not leaving anything tough to remove so that's a bonus. The seating position is a bit lower than your normal loo but nothing that causes a problem. Makes it easier for kids too! The flush is pump action. The flow covers the whole bowl area but can spill out unter the seat if you pump it too hard. There's a seat to lift for the lads if you can be bothered to put it up or back down after use. 😁 It clips closed and there's virtually no bad smells that come from it. To empty, you unclip the seat part and take the lower tank away. It can get heavy so I would suggest if you have a long walk to the chemical loo point, you take take it in the car if you can or get one of those folding crate trollys. Most chemical loo points have facilities to wash the loo out.
