LEGO Batman: The Movie - DC Super Heroes Unite [Blu-ray]

Vote for Lex
This is a sixty eight minute long film featuring a Lego version of Batman. It was actually released prior to the recent 'The Lego Movie.' So it has no connection with that, and the version of Batman in there, other than the fact that it's Batman done in Lego. This take on the character is a little different. It's based on a recent Lego Batman video game, and uses scenes from that with some all new footage in order to turn it into a movie.Set in Gotham city, the story sees Lex Luthor teaming up with the Joker, as he needs his help with a dastardly scheme. Batman is the only one who can save the day. Although there might just be help available from other heroes if he wants it...This is a Batman movie suitable for all ages [although epileptics and those who are bothered by flashing images might have a problem with one bit]. Lots of characters, both heroes and villains, from DC comics get a look in. It plays the tone of them and the whole thing just right, allowing humour to come from the characters and the way they interact.Particularly fun are the ultra confident and affable Superman, and the perhaps not quite as ready as he might think he is Robin. It's good some good action sequences, and yet it doesn't just string things out in between those. There is a good and solid plot here, which doesn't reveal everything right away. The score does use music from the 1989 Batman film, and Superman: the movie. All of which does feel a bit intrusive and distracting at times. But that's only a minor complaint. It also has a decent moral message that is quite subtle and never hammered home. All in all, this is a lot of fun. For Bat fans. Of all ages. The disc has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, German, Castilian Spanish, French, Italian.Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Italian. The disc begins with a trailer for the video game, but you can skip it via the next button on the dvd remote. There's a decent collection of extras:Building Batman: A decent and quite inspiring fifteen minute documentary about stop motion animation with Lego.A two minute long Lego Batman short. Which is a bit inconsequential, but nicely done.Three cartoons from various DC comics cartoon series. 'Triumvirate of Terror' and 'Sins of the Star Sapphire.' Two episodes of the fun Batman teaming up with other heroes show 'Batman: The Brave and the Bold.' These two are not available on any other dvd.Same with the third cartoon, 'Overdrive' an episode of 'Teen Titans Go'.There's also five short lego DC comics superheroes movies made by those who entered a contest to make one. All run no more than two to three minutes. And are all very good.Plus the box contains the usual flyer with website address and code to download a version of the movie to a digital device.

THE 'LEGO' HEROES' (GREAT FAMILY-FRIENDLY FUN)
THE 'LEGO' HEROES' (GREAT FAMILY-FRIENDLY FUN)Because of 'great' 'press' for the new 'Lego' movie and an enthusiasticreview from a fellow 'Amazon' reviewer for this movie, I decided to giveit a spin.During an award ceremony at which 'Bruce Wayne' (Batman) receivesan award for 'Man of the year' the 'Joker' crashes the party.'Batman' with a little help from 'Robin' round up 'The Joker' and hisassociates sending them to jail. However 'Lex Luthor' rescues the 'Joker' from jail, they join forces to wreakhavoc on 'Gotham City' which they intend to control. They have to take 'Batman' and 'Superman' out of the picture to achievetheir evil quest. The situation is proving too much for 'Batman' and 'Robin' to deal with, reluctantly 'Batman' needs the help of 'Superman' along with one or twomore super-heroes such as 'The Green Lantern' and 'Wonder Woman'along with members of 'The Justice League'They team up to protect the people and the very structure of 'Gotham City'from their evil adversary's.This a 'Lego' -Thrill a minute action movie with a good measure of humouralong the way for all the young and young at heart family members.(The film is a '6+' think I just about qualified)Really not sure I should have enjoyed this........but, I did.Good picture and sound quality throughout.Special Features:*All new featurette - Building Batman.*From DC comics vault - 3 bonus cartoons.*A Lego: stop-motion short.*Winning shorts from Lego DC universe Super-Heroes.*Video contest.(This Blu-ray package comes with a small 'Lego' Super Hero model.I received 'Superman' ...I suspect which model you end up with is random.)An entertaining 'Brick' movie.

Good stuff
A good DC movie, with the release of Beware of the Batman I think this was brought out to attract younger audiences to Batman. The characters are actually well done. I like the rivalry between Lex and Bruce, Lex's frustration at contumely being one upped by Bruce. The Joker not a crazy as everyone thinks he is. Batman being surly and with a huge chip on his shoulder (lack of Superpowers syndrome). The story Lex is running for President of the US. He is at the back of the poles, so he decided to use the Joker's Joker-gas to mind control people into voting for him. Of course to do this he realises he need to take out Batman and Superman along the way. He figures after all the times he has clashed with Superman taking out Batman would not be a problem. He uses a weapon called the deconstructor (something that deconstructs Lego bricks), to break the Joker out of Arkham Asylum, and to cover this breaks out the rest of the inmates as well.A good movie, but as I said I think it was made for a slightly younger audience. All in all a good movie, I did not really need to be in the Lego format, where were only a couple of thing like the Bat vehicles reforming but nothing that could not have been done in a normal DC movie.
