Q: Is the LED status light on the bottom of the AE station blocked when using this mount, or is it visible through one of the holes?

led status light is visible however, because of the power cord, the LED status light is not visible if you mount to the back wall of a cabinet. It has to be the left or right wall.

Q: How would this be mounted to real plaster wall (not dry wall)?

I have lathe and plaster and for some heavier objects I use hollow drive wall anchors. https://www.amazon.com/Seah-Hardware-Plated-Hollow-Assortment/dp/B076N3WQCV/ref=sr_1_30_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1530244777&sr=8-30-spons&keywords=butterfly+wall+anchors&psc=1 They are metal and you drill a large hole, stick them through, then you screw them closed with the provided screw, Inside the wall the metal draws toward the screw collar and bends into a butterfly, sandwiching the wall between the back butterfly and the front collar. After tightening you then unscrew the screw and you can then mount whatever you like. I used these to hang heavy framed posters and they worked wonderfully. Just a caution: There are really hard to remove and when you do you'll have a large hole to patch. Woodworkers express has them, they're called FastCap SB-ANCHOR 10 PC SpeedBrace Wall Anchor, PK/10. Be sure to choose the one for the thickness of your wall if you know it. My walls are about 1.25 thick so I make sure they don't butterfly less than 1.25 from the screw collar.

Q: Does the airport extreme sit securely in the bracket or is there a chance of knocking it out of the bracket since it is not secured at the top?

It sits securely in the bracket. There is an opening in the base of the bracket where the power wire plugs in. This pretty much locks it in place.

Q: Does it come with the Power cable for Airport Extreme?

My wall mounting system did not include a power cable, but my Apple's Airport did include one of course.
