A good lighting alternative
This is an excellent product -- but then what from House of Troy isn't? I have had many of their products over the years and I would still have several of them were it not for the Santa Rosa fires in October, 2017. So when it came time to rebuild the first light of choice was House of Troy. This light is an excellent departure from the traditional way of lighting a work of art. And this light did not disappoint. The only thing I would have liked would have been if it were dimmable. The other thing that was a frustration was that the bulbs were not included. When I Googled the bulbs I couldn't tell which were the correct ones so I had to order the bulbs after I received the light. If one has never owned one of these mantel lights in the past, it's a little hard to know what to expect. It is not meant to provide coverage of the entire work. This light, if placed correctly, will yield a very different piece of art at night vs. daytime lighting. Yes, there will be some shadows--but that's not always bad if the right things are being shadowed. This is also an excellent solution for tall works and the high ceilings found now in so many new homes.

Attractive fixture, but doesn't adequately light larger art.
I was hoping to avoid having an electrician wire an overhead light. Concept of up lighting made sense but was not effective for a larger painting, 48x48. The light was high quality.

Stunning! Beautiful "Lodge & Cabin" Artwork lighting option
I was looking for a way to light up a very large oil painting over my cabin's fireplace. The painting is tall (4'x 5') so any over-the-artwork lighting option would probably create a glare even if it was positioned correctly because of a loft nearby and because of the height requirment of where it would need to go (~13 ft up the wall). Over-art light options always get crooked when you dust them and their cords also are unsightly. If it was battery over-art version I'd never be able to replace them... In my cabin's vaulted ceiling there wasn't any way to add a ceiling spot light nor wanted to spend that kind of money. I wanted something that would feature the art and not distract from it. So I research for Lodge type of art lighting options...and this is the only one I found. All other would require being hand painted dark brown (black would not have looked good either). So that left the option of underlighting the artwork and finding something brown or paintable. I looked at battery operated underlights but my cabin is next to a huge hydro-electric plant so plug with clean energy in was preferred over batteries for multiple reason including the amount of light output needed. When I found this mantel lamp and realized it was electrical, came in bronze (which is a very dark brown/black), wide with two bulbs, and from a reputable manufacturer -House of Troy - I was sold. BUT it was out of my price range... then found a 'used' lamp option !!! After placing under my artwork and seeing it magically disappear into the mantel below the art (because it is dark and the cord is dark) and beautifully light up the art -- I can't say enough about how stunning it is. It completes my cabin's greatroom and everyone who has come over oohs and aaahs over it and the way it beautifully lights up the art. The long cord makes it simple to plug into a floor outlet by my fireplace. I'm not tall enough to reach that part of my(high) mantel where the lamp's inline switch is so I simply unplug it to turn it off. It requires two lightbulbs - so check which ones it needs and have them read if you purchase it. The bulbs are easy to find and not expensive. Now that I have it in place and love it - I recommend it highly even if it is over your budget. If you have beautiful artwork - you won't ever regret spending the money for such a beautiful, heavy, well made lamp. The vendor shipped it out quickly and I am a very VERY satisfied customer. It does put out a good bit of heat - so I only use it when I'm having company over or am enjoying the room. I've been enjoying the lamp now for two months and feel very lucky I found it. And btw - please support your local artists!

Good looking light for my biggest painting.
Good looking light. Save me the trouble of putting in an outlet behind my painting like the rest of them in the house. I do have 6 other paintings that are controlled by Insteon HomeKit outlets. I did not use the two T10 bulbs that came with the lamp. Bought 2 LED bulbs to use and very happy.

did not illuminate sides of painting, too bulky for mantel, burns hot
It was the main focus instead of the painting. I had to re-hangt the painting and still could notattain full coverage of the canvas,

Excellent Quality
This high quality lamp was the perfect solution to my problem. I have a 44" x 35" print, mounted in a room with little natural light. The glare it reflected from the adjacent rooms made it impossible to see the print. Placing this lamp beneath the print eliminated the glare and brought out the detail of the print. The brass finish makes it an excellent accent to the room. I am so impressed, I immediately ordered one as pending Christmas present for my daughter. (Don't tell her)

Excellent Art Light
A quality product. Attractive enough to stand alone if you don't want to camouflage with books, candles, etc. It's well weighted, so it doesn't wander around the mantel or dresser top. A nice alternative to a wall mounted picture light.
