Closet Monsters: Stitch Creatures You'll Love from Clothing You Don't Paperback – October 5, 2010

When I saw this book, I was immediatley bitten with Monster fever!! I knew it would be contagious, and that my 7-13 year old students would do back flips for this project!! I bought the book, showed it to them, and the Monster Project was off and running. Each student brought in 6 Monster sketches, then we had a Monster Kick-Off Party, and everyone voted for their favorite Monster!! They each wrote a back story for their Monsters, just as John Murphy has done, and we rolled on the floor with laughter. Each one was funnier than the last!! Prizes were given, including 2 copies of this book, wormy dirt pudding satisfied monsterous appetites, a scrap diving frenzy ensued, and we have since started monster production. Some students will be donating their Monsters to the Hasbro Childrens Hospital, and the Dept. for Children and Families. This is a book that I will continue to inspire my young students' creativity with, for as long as I am able to teach!!! Highly recommend!! If you don't know John Murphy's design intelligence, you're missing out. I found him a year ago on YouTube and watched his video over and over so I could create a monster plushie for my grandsons as a Christmas gift (where's your sense of humor???). It took three fails, but on the 4th try, I had a monster that I loved and so did they. Murphy has stopped designing and has started teaching high risk young people, so I'm an even bigger fan of his. He is so clever and this book gives even more ideas of what to do with stuff in your closet that you're ready to throw out.

I am an addicted Softie crafter and thought that this book would be a good one to add to my collection of resources. The idea of creating something from recycled materials is a good one...who doesn't have oodles of ugly items in their closets... but when I received this book i was a bit dissappointed. There are a few cute monsters to make but some are not all that cute which, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of making softies. Also, I think that the author is a great artist which means that he has an eye for making these things and me, being of ordinary skill sets, would have a hard time producing softies of such high quality.The book isn't really bad per say... just not all that exciting.

bought this for a friend and she loved this book! She had a lot of old clothes that were too worn to donate, but she is of the craftsy sort. She had so much fun making monsters for people and it's always nice that you can add your own twist to them. They also end up much larger than they look in the books and can be great for kids! Just be careful of the zippers!

My granddaughter is into making stuff with Duck tape now, and I just bought her her first sewing machine. She is not so much interested in fashion creation as creating interesting items and creatures. This book, I think, will hit the spot. We are going to have fun with it. Yay!

I purchased this for a gift. It was very well received! Even though I sent it to grandchild, and mother, I had a little voice tell me this my become popular with dad and indeed it did! He got right to it, with a brief introduction to the sewing machine, cutting up old clothing and making two closet monsters. This was just what I was hoping this book would inspire.

Love this book. Love all of Murphy’s books. It sits on my coffee table...a great coffee table book as well as useful.

This is a fun book geared to every sewing level. It allows your immagination to soure. If you are cleaning out your closet, you can still keep a few favorite pieces around by making a creature! You can also visit places like " Good Will" to try sewing with different fabrics and textures for a reasonable price.

this book is as much fun as it looks! i just hope that i have as amazing assortment of clothes to transform!

Beware, this book is for advanced sewers only. It contains no patterns, but has detailed instructions on how to turn leftover items of clothing into funky creatures. The creatures in the book are amazing! But I definitely don't have the skills to make many of them. (Especially since I'm more of a visual learner, and most of the instructions are complicated written ones.) I highly recommend to anyone with awesome sewing skills!

Libro geniale, serve un po' di esperienza di cucito e parecchia fantasia. Dato che si usano vecchi vestiti per la realizzazione dei pupazzi, si deve sapere modificare e adattare con gli abiti che si hanno a disposizione. Ma se si è in grado di fare questo, si apre un mondo!
