Bionaire BMT014D Mini Tower Fan, Oscillating with Timer & Optional Ioniser, Silver/White [Energy Class A]

I bought the fan hoping it would help with the summer heat, unfortunately the pictures are misleading, though the fan is size shown, the actual space where the air is moved through is much much smaller, its only the black portion of of the front panel in the image. In reality this is around 20% of the front grill, the picture is misleading since it is angled to give the impression the area is larger than it actually is.Negatives:Due to the small size of the actual area being used to fan air, which i checked with a tape measure to be 1.75 inches by 4.5 inches, you do not actually get much effect from the fan.The small size of the area that is used by the fan means you have a very small area in which there is a breeze, sure the area increases as you get further away however the power reduces very fast to barely noticeable. In effect if you put the fan a meter away it will produce a very weak breeze over the top half of your body that is too weak to cool you down in summer. I had to place the fan around half a meter away to get a breeze that would cool me on warm days, and even then the breeze was weak. Further at such close distances there is a very small area for the breeze so i had to raise the fan by placing it on several books before it even reached my face....The fan is weak, its useful for the warm days, for the hot days it made little to no difference, and the very hot days it was pointless, though to be fair on those days most fans are useless. I ended up buying another fan that is powerful enough to create a breeze in my room to cool me down on the hot/very hot days.Positives:Fan is very quiet, some reviewers comment on the noise, i never noticed this. I use the fan on its lowest setting (1) to keep a breeze and the barely noticeable sound fades into the background and i don't even realise its on. On its highest setting (3) the noise is initially noticeable however its comparable to a high end PC and again, fades into the background. I've watched TV with the fan on full, half a meter from my head and the noise of the TV drowns out the fan. I also leave the fan on whilst i goto sleep on its lowest setting (1) and no longer notice it.For me there is no clicking noise when the fan turns, in fact no noise at allIonizer seems to work for my hay fever, the times I've used it with the windows closed my hay fever dissipates or is greatly reduced, though admittedly this might be coincidence.Sleep mode works well, i turn the timer onto 1 hour before i go to sleep on very hot nights and it helps me get to sleep faster. I found i have to use the lowest setting though otherwise the noise becomes noticeable and stopped me going to sleep.OverallGreat build of components though very weak fan action, nice desk fan however misleading picture, if you're looking for a decent breeze buy something else. I ended up buying a different fan that could actually shift air during the hot periods in summer. This fan is just too weak to effectively cool you down on the hottest days. For the warm times in summer and bad hay-fever days this fan is great, however those are the days i don't actually need a fan. I like this fan, its good looking and i'd have given it 5 stars if they'd just made the whole front grill a fan and made it more powerful so you get a decent breeze. I suspect that the issue is caused by it being an ionizer instead of just a fan.

Compact

Not really something I can use during the night time because of how loud the lowest setting is.The max setting is even louder, and during the day is too loud to use. Especially if you work from home and need to concentrate.It does put out a decent breeze though, and the oscillation and timer functions work well.

I really like this fan. I purchased it because i needed a small fan to use in my bedroom as i have a newborn. I needed it to sit on my chest of drawers and it does this perfectly. It has an oscillating function which i use rarely as i just want it pointing at me. The buttons are easy to use and have synbols on.It looks quite stylish and isn't loud.

I was looking for a good inexpensive fan as a temporary solution to cool down a small bedroom (2,5m x 2,5m) which bakes in full, late afternoon sun and is very uncomfortable to fall sleep in at night. This fan is a nice design and sits perfectly on a small desk without taking up much space. The air flow temperature is better than I expected after reading other reviews so that was a pleasant surprise. The lowest setting is still cold for such a small fan and more than sufficient to eliminate the hot, stifling air in the room before bedtime. The highest setting is too strong at close range but it will be much appreciated during a heat wave! The only downside so far (the reason for removing a star) is the fan is not quiet, on sleep mode I can still hear it from outside the bedroom door. It’s not irritating but it is an audible hum. My intention with purchasing the fan was just to cool down the room before sleeping and not to leave it running all night so for me this is good enough.

This does give a nice cool breeze but time will only tell when the weather gets hot again.Its a small window where the breeze emits, so probably better on your desk. It is not the greatest at night when I need it the most. This is personal preference.It is also very noisy even on the lowest setting. Can't use it while working, as it sounds like a jet engine to the other side of the phone call.That said, it is still a good little fan and will be used at the side of my chair when watching tv in the living room. I can at least turn up the tv sound :)

An excellent fan, very well thought out and developed.

I bought 3 of them in the end, after buying 1 to try it out. Does the job well, and I like the air purifier function. The tower form factor gives it a lower desk footprint for its power, or if you prefer makes it more powerful for its desk footprint. It is a bit noisy for a desk fan though. Even the lowest speed setting is quite strong and noisier than I’d like. Forget sitting in the stream of this while on a phone or video call. But when you’re hot and need to cool down, this fan does a great job quickly. My one other gripe is that when you turn it on, even if it hasn’t been unplugged, it always comes on at the highest speed setting; it doesn’t remember what speed setting you had it at last. It _does_ remember whether the air purifier was on or off, so it doesn’t seem to me like it would have been difficult to add that.
