This Distiller was a Lifesaver While Traveling in Our 5th Wheel!!
This countertop water distiller was a lifesaver while traveling in our 5th wheel for almost 2 months. I distilled water daily as we were in California. Depending on where we were staying, the water went from not so bad to heavily calcified and who knows what else. I like to use distilled water for my coffee and also for my CPAP machine. We also used the distilled water for drinking water for the dogs. I was always hesitant to lift the lid after the distiller was finished because there was horrible looking stuff at the bottom and sides. This thing ran like a champ for our whole trip and I used it to make 3-4 gallons a day as we also used it for drinking water after we saw how bad the inside looked. Now that we have used it steadily, here are things you should know about the machine itself. The air blowing out of the top of the machine is warm. There were times in California I had to set the machine outside to make water because it would get so warm inside that I would have to run the A/C. But, there were times in California that it also got cold and we would make distilled water just to warm up the place instead of using our noisy heater. The sound of the machine is about equal to a fan. When lifting the lid, be careful as there will be steam and it could burn you. There is a gasket type seal on the lid and water seaps into it and the lid will shift and water will leak from this area. I found a cure for that, I used a long strip of velcro and looped it from under the maching to the top and once velcroed, there was no more leaking. Also, the metal piece that goes on the jug, I just leave it off. The water goes into the jug just fine and I always put the water in a gallon jug with a lid when the process is finished anyways.I never let this machine run until it is dry and I never let it run while I am away. I unplug it when the water starts getting to the top of the jug.I also use vinegar to clean it after every use. Vinegar works really well. Sometimes I will do a run of vinegar and water just to clean it more thoroughly. I don't know if that really works, as it is still distilling the vinegar and water, but I do know it cleans the inside really well, I mean like new.I think that is about it. I highly recommend this machine for the price and I think it is a good value.Oh, one more thing, I was reading some of the questions about concerns of the plastic jug. The water that comes out of the distiller is cool water, it is not hot. The water boils inside of a completely stainless steel container and as it goes into the coils where the fan is, it is cooled down which creates the distilled water. There should be no fear of the water going into the plastic jug and causing leaching as the water is not hot in the least.UPDATE: 4/22/2020I Just wanted to give an update. It is still running great!! I still use the velcro strip which holds the lid in place. I pretty much just use it once a week at home for my cpap machine or until we take the 5th wheel out then it is used daily. We have a good water filter system at home. After reading some of the other reviews I wanted to mention that there is no on or off button. The button on the unit is a safety button and is what shuts the machine off if you run the machine dry. I never let it run dry though and I don't think you should ever let the machine run dry or leave it on and go somewhere. Just unplug it if you go somewhere and plug it in when you get home.

In my opinion, this device is potentially a house fire waiting to happen.
After noticing some discoloration around the "ON" switch we disassembled the unit to take a closer look. As you can see from the photos there has been significant overheating around the switch melting and discoloring the case. The "ON" switch components are melted, and the wiring to the switch has overheated and blackened.Based on my husband's degree in electronics and his 30+ years in related industry, in our opinion the design and build of this device is VERY dangerous. The "ON" switch is what is called a resettable thermoswitch - essentially a temperature overprotection device. They are supposed to be used when a device's primary temperature control system fails to cut power to the heating element. The designers are relying on this thermal protection device to turn off the power on EVERY CYCLE. When the water runs out, the device overheats and then the thermoswitch "pops" to turn the unit off. Then the unsuspecting consumer pushes the button to reset the switch the next time they use it. There are 2 flaws in this design. First, the unit HAS to overheat in order to end the cycle. Second, resettable thermoswitches temperature accuracy is rather broad and they will "pop" at varying temperatures. Worse yet, the temperature they "pop" at will change the more "pop/reset" cycles they go through. We're very lucky we investigated this BEFORE it burned down our house.Yes it distills water, and we probably ran 50 gallons through it over the past few months, but in our opinion a design that relies on boiling itself dry so it can overheat and then cut the power to the heater is inherently flawed and potentially dangerous.

It was quattro fun and then done
Following the direction, I ran a full cycle through the distiller and discarded the water. ICK! The amount of sediment/gunk in the bottom of the main component was frightening. I ran three more cycles. And the water was delicious. However, The unit stopped working after the fourth cycle. I tried all the usual fixes. To no avail, the thing wouldn’t turn on.

That much crap in 1gal of tap?
I've been distilling pretty heavily since I got it almost 3mos ago w/ no issues as it can do 24hrs per manual. Everyone said it's their face water. I thought it tasted weird at first but love it now, you'll wanna drink so much.Wait til you see and SMELL the gunk at bottom after distilling. Just 1 gallon has that much smelly crap?! Not sure if it's the chlorine, fluoride, drugs, etc. but it smells synthetic. And I heard distilling isn't even 100% effective! It's pretty eye opening end well worth being called crazy. And their "washing away minerals" argument is weak. If you eat food, you're fine. I take a multi vitamin too, as I did before.Cleaning is kinda a pain unless you throw in a few tbsps of their included awesome detergent. It gets rid of build up amazingly well, just "distill" it w/o lid and the buildup goes away. Electricity use is kinda high like all heating elements, we calculated 65 cents per gal I think, I'll check. It takes 4hrs to distill 1gal. I run it when I leave or go to bed. I actually have it outside so the steam doesn't heat up the place.Nice device, no rust so far, and decent customer support (at least they tried) - I asked what the detergent was, she didn't know, just said basic detergent. If anyone knows please post.

I have distilled 8 gallons of water so far. Works great! One hiccup which was my fault when I did not put the top on correctly and had a small amount of water leak. My wife and I both have CPAP machines and no more lugging home gallon jugs! No more recycling empties.

Best purchase I've made.
Brilliant. The water tastes amazing, very pure... The amount of gunk left over will make your stomach turn.Important. Run it about 5 times... And give it a good clean according to the instructions...I've run Evian through it, you'd be surprised the amount of crap even in bottled water...

Better than the previous one we had....but that's not saying much
This was bought to replace one that didn't work in so much as the heat sensor didn't switch it off until everything smelled of burning electrical components. This one still isn't great to the point where rather than use the automatic cut off we set a timer and turn it off before it has finished, because it too burns on the bottom - but at least with this one I don't think it's going to burn the house down. It's not great - construction seems to be using mainly cheap materials - inside of the lid is stained within a few uses and it feels flimsy. On the upside, it doesn't seem to be a death trap.

Goid for the price
It does the job. The plastic bottle stinks. Its easy to get rid of, just use some bicarbonate of soda and fill woth water to the brime and leave over night and smells gone

bitter taste, not enough descaler &charcoal filters
The flavour of the distilled water is a little bitter. The "descaler" bottle gives no indication of what it actually is and the quantity is very miserly. Since the distiller has to be cleaned with the cleaner/descaler of the left over residue that has dried up after EVERY use, it isn't likely to last very long. The distiller is on for up to 8 hours daily to give me 8 litres to use in my humidifier. Can't get the dark blotches inside the top fan compartment off even with scrubbing! Not enough charcoal filters supplied either!

Crystal clear tasty water.
I like the crystal clear water. It tastes good (even if a bit different) and I'm amazed at the gunk left at the bottom of the container. I certainly wouldn't want to drink that residue!
