They stay flexible even when stored in the freezer. Wrap them in a tea towel or pillow case when using against your skin. Recently had hip replacement surgery and was advised to ice my hip area. Ice cubes are hard and lumpy and too cold and have to be moved about constantly.These are perfect for the job. They can flex around the outside of an area or you can hold it on to make it fit in just about anywhere. They feel as if they are filled with a gel substance and are nice and soft. They stay cool for long enough and then back in the freezer, totally reusable.So glad I got these, they have helped enormously in my recovery. My pack is many years old but still going strong and after my wife had full knee replacement surgery I decided to buy a couple so I could keep them on rotation in the freezer so she always had an ice pack for the inflammation.As to heating them, I have never done this, however based on the instructions on the back you can do this in a microwave.These are my favourite ice packs as you can bend them round your injury, they are not rigid as the gel inside is flexible.
