Christ And The Americas

I like this book on so many levels. First, it lets you know from the very beginning that this text is written through a Catholic lens. You know what the bias is, unlike so many commonly used textbooks that have a bias (usually secular humanism), but never state the fact. Second, familiar accounts take on a new light when you look at them in regards to how well the historical figure lived out his/her calling to be holy. I find the book recounts history in a way that inspires me to be a more godly individual. Third, because the text refers to primary sources frequently and mentions the affects of poorly written histories, I am encouraged to go back to the source material and better understand how history can be distorted. Rarely has a textbook had such a profound impact on my interest to delve seriously into history.

Finally, a history book written so well to the truth that top Catholic schools, including Mother of Divine Grace and Seton etc have used it for years. For a solid Catholic education, use this book for history.

As far as textbooks go this is a good one for my 9th grade students. The companion workbook is also very helpful.Obviously, this is history from a Christian perspective, but it may not be obvious at first glance that it is also Catholic. It is I was looking for, but I even as a practicing Catholic, I do find the lessons to be a bit narrow minded at times.

Well written and easy to read. Not so dry like other texts.

Finally, a history book written from a Catholic perspective. Mrs Carroll's books are interesting, informative and give the reader a view of history they will not find in most history books. I enjoyed this book very much.
