Just what I hoped it would be !
First of all, the usual high standard Amazon delivery service, next day delivery as promised.I’m really pleased with this product. It should have a new listing really as I read previous reviews before my purchase, and the problems mentioned appear to be from an earlier product. For example, the ‘loose SD card’ entry just isn’t the case anymore – it’s perfectly fine.On opening up the package I was first impressed by fact that it looks and feels like a ‘proper camera’ – some of my other equipment has more of a toy-like feel to them (although I must say they work perfectly well for what I paid for them).I bought it specifically for night usage, but couldn’t resist trying it in daylight. Confused myself as I couldn’t understand why I could still see an image although I’d forgotten to take the lens cover off, but soon realised that there is a small hole in the cover which allows this (note you are supposed to turn the camera on with the lens cover in place). Anyway, once I removed the cover it gave a nice crisp image. The focus action is a bit stiff, but I found out that this is advantageous for what I want as once I have got the focus correct, it stays that way (my other kit is too easy to nudge out of focus).Next I played with the recording functions. The default setting is at photo, so took a few shots no problem. Switched to video mode, and found that you need to spend a bit of time getting used to how to hold the camera and use the buttons. At first the lens cap was obscuring the lens, but all I had to do was slide it around the casing so that it hung below the lens. My fingers kept getting in the way of the IR illuminator, but you soon learn how to keep out of its way. Messed up a few times as I was just powering off the unit at the end of a recording, so it wasn’t saving the clip. You need to switch modes to get it to save properly. Playback works, but I prefer to review the footage on my computer or TV, and I think it loses the timestamp when you do this (I could be wrong, I don’t need this facility). As I planned to use it powered by the mains, I took the batteries out and plugged it in to the mains. Works just fine. Next, I use it on a tripod as I’ve found it’s very hard to get a steady image hand held. No problem at all because there was an adaptor included in the package (which I did need). Now for the main bit for me. I use an MPR (mobile player recorder) to record my footage, mainly because it breaks long footage into 30 minute timestamped segments. I’ve had some problems with these connections in the past, but I was delighted to find that they AV output cable supplied joined straight into my existing setup and worked first time.Testing on the first clear night, the stars came into nice clear focus (although the moon is too bright to get any interesting captures). What I discovered is that the camera actually needs to be recording to keep it ‘active’ – if you just leave it set up to run passively the auto power off kicks in and it shuts down. Anyway, not a problem as I just set it to record and switch on my MPR . The supplied 8Gb micro SD card will keep it going for about 5½ hrs, and I’ve tested it with a 16Gb card which runs for at least 11 hrs (so that should be more than adequate). Just out of curiosity I tried it with a 32Gb card but it wasn’t having it.In summary, I’ve very pleased with this unit, it does exactly what I wanted it to do at a reasonable price.

Works well, with a few issues
Overall it is an excellent device which does as you would expect it to do. There are just a few things to know:Memory card must be removed to manage pictures/video (transfer or delete etc). The springs on these card holders aren't really designed for constant installing and removing so it will eventually fail if overused. It's a shame there is no data transfer over USB, but you could record over the RCA video cable with a portable recorder if you can find one which works and bypass the memory card entirely. You can fit several thousand photos on the supplied card, or about 45 minutes of video so you could leeave it installed until you are running out of space. The built in IR light is automatic in low light conditions, and there is no way to turn it off/on. There is also no indicator on the screen for when it is on. There is a 24mm metal mounting plate which can be used to mount an IR torch (both 850nm and 940nm works), so I've covered the built in IR lamp and use my own. It works reasonably well in low light conditions too without IR (maybe a small improvment on human vision). The battery level indicator does not seem to work, it always shows full right up to when the device fails due to low power. The supplied batteries were 700mah, which last probably less than an hour. I have ordered some 2200mah replacements. I also have a portable 4500mah battery with a USB-A output port which I can use the supplied cable with to power the device when this happens. The power cable is USB-A to a barrel jack (I think it's 3mm with outer positive, but I haven't figured it out exactly yet. The seller responded quickly to my question with three possibilites as the actual specs aren't listed in the manual. I'm waiting for a cable to arrive to confirm). I would have preferred a standard mini usb charger. There is no zoom digital or optical, just a standard 7x monocular lens with manual focus. My tests seem to show about a 50m range with the built in IR, or about 75m with my T67 940nm (maybe more with a T67 850nm).

very disappointed and returned it within 48 hrs
I assume the one I received had a defective sensor, the image in daylight was a pseudo colour and posterise blobs. The IR night vision was a lithographic black and white no gradation of grey. This was no use at all. I don't understand how this have left the manufacturers without being checked for quality control, at a price of £355.00 this is appalling. I agree with one other of your reviewers, focusing the lens when using the IR illuminator is virtually impossible because your hand blocks the light. I was very, very disappointed and returned it within 48 hrs. The one star rating does not reflect the very quick delivery from Amazon.

Without the IR illuminator on night vision is significantly worse than just using your eyes - how is this better than the £40 security camera I use? Also the case is very plasticy. Although the image quality is good I can't see where the additional £200 has gone.
