This is a must-see classic
Although dated in many ways this is a beautiful film. The animals which are pictured in such abundance, here, are in increasing decline, as is there natural habitat, though this is never spoken of except when referring to poachers. I guess this was made before the climate changed in such a critical, threatening way. It’s like watching a film about how things should be & just what we’re losing.

I am lion, hear me roar!
Born Free is a film I had been waiting an eternity to get a release in high definition on blu ray, ( where is Rutger Hauer and The Hitcher - No doubt stuck in some rights issue hell ) anyways I am going off topic there. Finally Born Free is out, i will concentrate on image and sound quality as the film itself is very enjoyable and I do not want to spoil it for anyone.First off, the audio, this is a sixties film, as such do not expect the audio to have the dynamic range of a modern blockbuster, but you can enjoy it for what it is, clarity is good, I had no problems hearing voices, the famous music score sounds good and although the lions roar has nothing on that MGM beast it still is fine enough for this presentation.Image quality is very good, it can probably be improved upon but for me it looked natural, no nasty enhancements added, by that I mean absolutely no Universal studio level degraining, contrast boosting or sharpening applied, just a solid good looking image, just make sure your tv or projector have been set up correctly, buy a blu ray calibration disc. Born Free is a good film and a good blu ray, four stars because I foresee a future, maybe five years from now, where they make a new 4k scan that yields even more fine detail.

Unforgettable story of the bond between humans and animals
This tenderhearted British drama contains amazing footage of the relationship between a lioness and a couple, Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers, playing conservationists Joy and George Adamson, who raised an orphaned lion cub, Elsa, in 1956, and then attempted to release her back into the wilderness of Kenya. The movie was based upon Joy Adamson's 1960 account of this unique social "experiment". Greatly uplifted by the sincerity of the acting, the rugged cinematography and by the beautiful musical score from legendary film music composer, John Barry, Born Free is simply superb.

Born Free DVD - Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers
I saw Born Free years ago when it was first shown in the cinema. It's a really wonderful film which brought back memories of when I first saw it.In the last year I have been fascinated with the true story of 'Christian the Lion', I have never come across anything so moving, it really got to me in a serious way. I bought the DVD's showing him and his owners - John Rendall and Anthony Bourke. I've been captivated ever since. I even began watching films of African lions...in the sheer hope that maybe I would come across one of his sibblings! I then saw your advert for 'Born Free' and I had to have it, I bought one for my daughter too.

An important film for adults and interesting and entertaining for older children
Excellent transaction; described as "as new" but was in fact new, in its original manufacturer wrapper! Price was very competitive and delivered as expected. I had not seen the film since first released in the 1960s so it was great to see it with fresh eyes. The film has a very up to date message; especially interesting are the extras from the Born Free Foundation. Lovely clean picture and clear sound and the sweeping images are well displayed on a modern wide screen TV. I viewed this on the standard DVD, I guess the blu-ray disc would be even better!!

A most important movie
Yje story of Elsa is very moving. I discovered it when I was a kid. I still remember the theater where I saw "Born Free" for the first time. In a sense, it was responsible for my further occupation . I became an ethologist and taught it in the Brussels University ! And I fervent member of the Born Free Foundation.

Once you see Born Free, you'll never forget it
Having first seen this movie in my youth and recently watching it again as an adult, it has never lost its charm or appeal and I think it deserves to stand as one of the most fulfilling and heartwarming family films ever made. As it is based on a true story, that makes it even better. And what a story it is too.Game warden George Adamson and his wife Joy are residents in Kenya, Africa and relate their experiences of raising an orphaned lion cub after the mother has been shot out of self-defense reasons. Actually it is three lion cubs but two are sent off to a zoo and the third, eventually named Elsa, is raised by Joy Adamson. It is interesting and enjoyable to watch the interaction of the cub with the adults and the relationship that grows ever closer between them. Upon raising the cub to maturity, it becomes a difficult time for the Adamson's knowing that releasing the grown lion into the wild is the only real answer. Due to being tame for so long, it is Joy's responsibility now to train Elsa to be able to survive on its own and she does an admirable job. When the fateful day finally comes, it tugs at the heart strings to see the emotional effects on the Adamson's when releasing something they love so dearly. It is also inspiring knowing that they cared so much and did it for all the right reasons. It eventually makes for a wonderful end to a great movie. As for the film particulars, the cinematography is very attractive in Africa and the accompanying music is a perfect compliment to everything else. The acting is so innocent and natural you can almost be fooled into believing this isn't a movie. For being a timeless classic that is now over 4 decades old, this movie stands the test of time and will always be a treasure for anyone and everyone. This is a highly recommended film all around.
