Sword and Laser Anthology

Some of these stories are fun and entertaining. Unfortunately there was some unpleasant content mixed in that I was surprised to see in a modern collection. One story featured a man being tortured to death for cheating on his wife with another man, it was unclear if this was punishment for the adultery or the homosexuality or both. Another story's protagonist used a magic potion to turn invisible and sneak into a women's bathhouse to creep on naked women. Gross. As said above, some of these tales are better than others.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite my bitterness for not being included in it, that should speak volumes. I liken this great collection of short stories to those tiny variety boxes of cereal (we called em "camping boxes"), but it's all good cereal, no Special K (unless that's your thing). If you want to read a diverse collection of stories from a future G.R.R. Martin or John Scalzi (before they got famous), you could do worse than this little gem from Tom and Veronica.

This is 20 stories. 10 Sci-fi ("laser") and 10 Fantasy ("sword") written by members of the community of listeners to the Sword and Laser podcast (and/or members of their GoodReads group). Lots of people submitted stories and Tom and Veronica, the hosts, picked the best ones. They are all different and all unique, so if you like these genres and you are looking for something a little different, try this one.

An anthology of science fiction and fantasy short stories. Some are ok, some not so much. There wasn't anything here which really impressed me, but that's ok, I guess.

I love the idea of the book, and I really enjoyed the sword half, I'm just not a big sci-fi fan. I'm not sorry I bought it, just buyer beware you may only enjoy half of it.

For first time writers it is not bad. Some of the stories made little sense to me but others were very good.

Absolutely excellent read. I have been looking forward to getting this on my kindle for weeks and wasn't disapointed at all. Every read was excellent. Some of the books felt like excellent chapters from books that could become large pieces of work, and some felt like beautifully crafted short stories. Granted some of them did feel slightly unfinished due to this, but i have to say i had to ration myself to one story a night song didn't read them all. Great work by Tom merritt and Veronica Belmont putting this together. And i am in awe of the sword and laser listeners who got their books in. Bring out anthology no2 soon!
