What is the difference between the bosu elite and the bosu pro in terms of training use? is one better for proprioception and stability?

While the 12" high blue dome of the original BOSU and BOSU Pro is easily compressed and will not push back against the exerciser, the 8" high black dome of the BOSU Elite Balance Trainer is noticeably thicker and intentionally firmer to create opposing force and generate tremendous feedback. The BOSU Elite Balance Trainer provides more stability during high impact movements, greater instability for platform side up exercises (since the downward facing dome will then work to retain its curved shape rather than compressing), and increased resistance that spring loads the body. The BOSU Elite Balance Trainer dome has a honeycomb tactile element and is imprinted with designated training areas identified as Power Zone and Power Line. The Power Line is used to set the body in the best athletic position and establish proper alignment from head to toe to maximize the effectiveness of every exercise. Which Bosu would be better for proprioception and balance exercises?

I cannot answer this from a professional standpoint, but from fitness and cost standpoint, you don’t need this one. The blue model will work just fine. This one is expensive, leaks, and honestly does not offer anything the blue one doesn’t.

Because it's more firm, is this elite version less effective for just standing & balancing?

It's slightly different.  You get more pushback and less wobble on the dome.  If you put the dome down and stand on the flat top it's actually more of a challenge than other bosus for wobble-factor..  Maybe on the black side it's slightly less challenging to stand on as far as wobble but nothing significant, but I notice the resistance a bit.  I've used the blue ones in the gym and I have this one at home.  This is my assessment.  If you need the maximum movement in while standing on the dome, go with the blue one, not the elite.
