Doggie Dooley 3000 Septic-Tank-Style Pet-Waste Disposal System

Purchased for single working cocker spaniel (~12kg), with plan to get another dog in about a year.Was concerned about plastic lid. Especially the idea that the lid would be too flimsy or that a child might step on the lid and fall in. But, on delivery, found the lid to be quite small, so I'm not concerned. The lid is big enough to make it easy to put in the dog waste, but not so big that I'm worried someone would fall in.I knew at the time of ordering that my ground was not clay. The problem with clay is that the ground is required to absorb excess water from the unit. As every gardener knows, clay ground doesn't absorb water.I chose unobtrusive location to install, nestled in a corner and slightly hidden by a hedge. But near the place where we have encouraged the dog to go to the toilet.Took about two hours to install, about an hour of which was removing two large stones found when digging. Used post hole digger, spade, trowel, and spirit level. The only reason I needed a trowel was to clear space around large stones so they could be lifted out. Getting level was important to me because of flow of waste water.Installation guide suggests digging 48" hole depth (14" around), with the unit sitting in the top 24" and an empty space below (also 24"). When you add water to the unit day-to-day, the excess water drains from the unit above into the hole below, and this excess water then seeps into the surrounding ground. I had concerns with the side walls below being unstable, and what I would do if the hole is was dug too big and then the unit wouldn't be held in place at the top.So, instead of leaving a bare hole, I took a section of plumbing soil pipe (about £10 from B&Q, but only comes in 10' length), cut to about 3' length with a hacksaw, drilled with many holes, and buried this pipe section below the drain from the top unit. After this, I was able to fill in around the drain pipe, and then have a solid base upon which to set the top unit.Started the unit today by filling with a hose and adding a couple of the digester tablets that came with the unit (it came with 12 tables, recommended one tablet per dog per week). The instructions suggest adding 4 litres of water each time you add waste, and not to overload the unit by adding multiple days at a time. We collect the dog's waste as she produces it, so I expect I'll end up adding a few litres a couple of times a week.

I'll start by saying please make sure you realise how big of a hole you need! (4 foot) Spent an afternoon digging this and it's held strong for months now. It does say this size is ok for two large dogs but I can assure you, it's not enough for two German Shepherds. That's ok though it works amazingly well when used with the tablets/powder you can buy on here. Dig your holes well and it'll save you having to fill your bins with doggie doo!It's great for the garden though as it acts like fertiliser in the immediate area, put a veggie garden near it and it's going crazy even in this heat!

Not cheap, but should prove worthwhile.

Having one of these is definitely better than nothing and is a lot better than some of the other rubbish dog loos out there. However, there are handful of design flaws so obvious it doesn't make me think much thought went into this product.Firstly, the casing is made of a nice sturdy metal but the lid and top is a very flimsy plastic. The top should also be a strong metal material to stop any heavy branches falling on top and breaking it, or god forbid any person tripping on it and getting their foot stuck in it.You are instructed to use post hole digger to install this in the ground however there are no such post hole diggers that will dig a hole with a circumference as wide as the dog loo. This loo would be be much better being narrower and deeper than it is.The overflow tube is a little too high for my liking. The lovely dog slurry comes up just above ground level when you open the lid and you will have to stand back a bit from the splashing when you flush it with the hose.

Very pleased with this item. Excellent idea saves a lot of messing around trying to get rid of dog waste. Clean and no odour. Easy to fit and use. Value for money.

For cleaning up after dog and cat

A bit of thought in the setup and it goes on and on. Not too pongy, the bucket we use to transport the "labrador landmines" to the tank smells a lot lot worse than the septic tank. - buy the tablets, a lot easier to add to the tank than the powder.Follow the instructions and it's quite straightforward to set up. Disappointed that the enzyme goes slow in cold weather but I should have thought of that, but then there's almost zero whiff in cold weather, so a reasonable compromise

I had an older model dog dooley in the form of a large plastic pyramid open at the bottom that you buried in a large hole in the ground. This served me well for over 20 years, but the plastic lid at the top eventually broke from usage and fatigue, though the underground structure is still working to this day.This new model is made of steel, and is closed at the bottom. It is installed by digging a deep and narrow 48"x14" hole in the ground. I made the hole too wide, and had to use small rebar bars at the top to make it fill, and then filled the too-wide mouth of the hole with gravel. I could have dug another hole, but the initial hole was hard to dig because of roots, so decided to improvise. Make sure that the hole is narrow.Once the digester is installed, it is very easy to operate. You need to add water periodically, which overflows from the inside into the deeper hole. The opening of the digester of the digester is wide enough that the matter inside can be easily turned periodically. This helps breakdown clumps in the matter, spread the enzymes, and add oxygen.Eventually, I presume that the hole in which the digester is installed may become full, and may have to be emptied or a new hole dug, but that will probably take years.Overally if you are interested in an ecological way to digest your pet waste that does not involve plastic bags and throwing poop in your trash, I highly recommend this system. It is well designed, well built and very practical. It does take a little work to install, and light periodic maintenance.

Finalmente una soluzione valida per smaltire gli escrementi dei miei cani di grossa taglia.Funziona benissimo , ogni volta che aggiungo le cacche dei cani metto 5lt d' acqua e una volta alla settimana 2 pastiglie che sciolgono benissimo tutto.Una volta che il coperchio è chiuso non emana nessun odore. L'unica difficoltà è stata scavare la buca che doveva essere di 1,20 m ma noi siamo arrivati a farla solo di 1 metro ma devo avere un buon terreno drenante perché funziona comunque. Super consigliato.

This works amazing. It hides all the mess is easy to use. Very happy with it. Wish I had done this years ago.
