This is the ideal guide for anyone wanting to start beekeeping and a revered reference book for experienced beekeepers. It includes information on all you need to know, including how to avoid swarms, plan requeening, or provide the colony with winter stores. It features key information on Varroa. It is copiously illustrated throughout. Fully revised and updated, this new edition of "Guide to Bees and Honey" also presents expert advice for readers who plan to maintain a few hives for personal recreational use, as well as those who want to expand an existing colony into a commercial venture. Review: Deeply detailed book - In depth book , not really for fresh beginners more intermediate Review: Brilliant book - In my first year of beekeeping, this is the third book I have bought - on the recommendation of an older man giving a talk on the subject. I totally disagree with those who criticise the black and white photographs. Many other books have pages of big coloured photographs which, at first glance, appear more appealing but this book is beautifully written and far more readable than what often amounts to a paragraph to describe a photograph. There is so much conflicting advice when it comes to beekeeping but there is something about Ted Hooperโs book that makes me feel he is the man to listen to!

Extremely useful and enjoyable.
Came highly recommended and I can see why. The book is authoritative, detailed and a pleasure to read. The author is clearly an accomplished expert and willing to share the kind of information and tips which take a lifetime of experience to collect. A must for new beekeepers.

The Beekeepers 'bible'
Ted Hooper really knew his stuff, was practical, and obviously loved his bees. If you start with the correct advice of sticking to one source of information to avoid confusion and contradiction (everyone's an expert!?) then this is the book you should follow. Whatever is happening in the apiary, Ted will have the answer or tell you where to get it. You will constantly refer to it all the time you keep bees. Yes there are more modern books and chemicals etc. but as a foundation for your hobby, you will not find better information.

No nonsense honeybee management
I'm in the US, not the UK, but I really like Hooper's approach. Clear and mater of fact explanations of his management style.
