But I soon tired of the dreary dream like tone and narrative
Off to a promising start with the first story, full of dark humour, bathos and sensitive moments. But I soon tired of the dreary dream like tone and narrative. Shame because there is the odd moment of genius and I love stories about women written without cliche. But this just got annoying. They were all a bit samey and I lost interest. Makes you realise how hard it is to write a meaningful short story. I can see what she was trying to do and it’s commendable but the characters just didn’t draw me in enough.

Beautifully written and insightful collection
A beautifully written collection of short stories. Brilliantly juggling a variety of tones, these short stories will stick with you long after you have put the book down.

Original and powerful collection
This collection of stories is powerfully written, evocative and original. If you only read one collection of short stories this year, read this one,
