Excellent device for integrating into lamp-post
I added these to a couple of aluminium 1.8m lamp-posts that I installed to provide daylight sensing (ie turn on in dark). Really simple to install - single round hole to be drilled, mount device from inside, wire up L,N (supply) and SWL (output) into a terminal block between incoming supply and light fitting. Works excellently, still working 1 year later. Easy to water-proof fully. Excellent design.

Christmas Lights Come On At Night
This is not a motion sensor. It only measures light level and turns on when it gets dark. I mounted the sensor in a black ABS plastic box and wired up the mains connection. The Christmas lights are not bright enough to trigger the sesnsor to turn off so it works perfectly. The hysteresis seems about right. The on and off levels have never triggered cyclic on/off switching. I have three sensors working in my front house windows. Car headlights have never triggered a turn off. There is quite a long time delay so short flashes of light have no effect. You need to be an electrician and able to solder the connections. Screw terminal blocks might be okay.

Don't rush to write off and replace!!
I had a bit of a strange experience with this photocell. It was easy to install, but it took far longer than the 120secs in the instructions before coming on when completely covered in daylight to test. Nevertheless it did work and quickly adjusted to dusk/dawn back in November. I then put up the Xmas lights and it went off completely - my mistake so can't blame the item. However when the decs were down and I tried to reset / test it - no joy. Disconnected it and put on a multimeter and got different readings when covered/uncovered ( I'm not an electrician so not really sure what was happening) but it appeared to be doing something. Reconnected in daylight no joy. Disconnected put back on multimeter still different readings, so refitted in darkness and low and behold after two nights of nothing it finally switched on (well after dark) it then progressively improved to switch on nearer dusk over the next few nights. I don't know how these things work so I am not sure if the multimeter was helping by somehow 'discharging' the cell enabling it to reset, either way it is working fine now!! (Typically I had ordered a replacement so I now have a spare - hence the title and 4 stars)

Replacement photocell
Bought this to replace a faulty photo cell in a security light. More or less a straight swop. Diameter of threaded neck was slightly smaller than original but overcame that problem easily, On powering up light comes on for a short while then goes out, then set to come on at dusk. Working well at the moment

Worked then failed in 9 months.
Worked for 9 months (Bought March 2016) then just gave up the ghost (Dec 2017) and the light it was attached to stayed on all the time.Disappointed as it is for a school too and now I need to get another source for the sensor that works for much longer. Will decide if I should replace it again or just replace the fitting.

Did not work
I'm an electrian and fitted this after having it in my draw for 7 months . The light came on after covering it with a towel , however that night it did not . I covered it with a towel again and it came on . Left it for 5 nights and it never came on, I then put a towel over it again this time it did not come on . I tested it and it is faulty . It is too late to return so my advice is avoid buying this as they obviously faulty units judging by the previous feed backs , if only I had read them first. I'm get tired of buy rubbish items off the Internet.
