Great product highly recommend
I Owen a store and all I can say is if you follow the instructions by filling first it works 100% perfect. The only thing that I can say that is a negative is the device is super light weight .If the company added some weight to the product it’s would be a really great addition. But overall it’s a great tool for the gold business.Michael

Very Disappointed
First, let me say that Jeweler's Supermarket has been great thru this process, from quick shipping thru valuable support. But the GemOro AGT1 test device itself is a Major Disappointment! I did NOT spend $429 just so I could return the device - but it is being returned today.I received it last week thinking this was going to be great. I've been testing gold & platinum w/acids for quite a while and am familiar w/the full scratch test process. Before the unit came I'd read the AGT1 documentation and was "more than confused" that it stated that the unit not only needed to be calibrated the first time used that day, but that "it must be re-calibrated 'often' thru the testing process". I HAD NO IDEA HOW HORRIBLE THAT STATEMENT REALLY WAS. I thought w/all my experience that it shouldn't be much of a hassle. DEAD WRONG!!! Instead, I followed GemOro's instructions exactly to the "T" on calibration, use & re-calibration. What I found out was that if you're testing ALL 14k yellow gold over & over, then it's usually "ok". But, in the real world when you test 14k, then 10k, then plated or gold-filled, that the unit BECOMES UNRELIABLE. I got to the place that I had to re-calibrate almost every other time after testing anything other than 14k - TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! How can anyone buying gold trust a unit to tell you the exact karat weight when it does NOT stay calibrated.I also talked to GemOro support who questioned me in full to see if I was doing everything correctly (& said I was) - who stated that was just the nature of the unit that it must be re-calibrated so frequently. According to their support person the new AGT2 coming out for the android/ipad is supposed to be MUCH BETTER on calibration. I will give it another try w/the AGT2 and hope she is correct.

Have to scratch
Works pretty well sometimes you need to make a deeper scratch into the gold which is ok if your melting but not so good if your selling the item

The problem with testing
Only problem is you have to program every time with a 18k gold peace of jewelry.

Accurate tests
As far as I can tell, it is very accurate. Expensive, but accurate. It should have come with the 14k test piece. Even if they charged a little more for it. You need something that you KNOW is 14K to calibrate it. I'm also unclear on the validity of the different types of gold, ie. white gold, in the accuracy.

I am still getting to know this machine. It is working good. Fairly simple operations.
