The Unmumsy Mum: The Hilarious Highs and Emotional Lows of Motherhood

Really fun read for moms!
As a new mom to twins and a toddler, it is so refreshing to read about someone's experience in parenting that isn't all "rainbows and sunshine". The author gives a truly honest account of what parenting can be like with hilarious anecdotes. She has such a wonderful way of describing situations all moms face (like sleep deprivation and diaper disasters), and when you're in the trenches of new motherhood (or 2.5 years in...) it is great to hear that you aren't the only one having these thoughts or experiencing the same frustrations. After reading this book, you feel like you've had a conversation with a good friend and you're face hurts a bit from smiling. I also loved that the writing is in the author's British English, and hasn't been converted to American English! (I did have to google a few terms to make sure I knew what she was referring to, but that added to the fun for me!)

Very honest & interesting
I picked this book up from someone who was rehoming it because I thought it would be full of funny, honest stories. It sat on my bookshelf for a little while, than I started it earlier this month, looking for some light reading and a change from fiction. While the book does have some amusing anecdotes from Sarah's life as a mother, and some short funny things that some of her blog readers have written to her about, the book is much more like an honest look at all aspects of being a mother to very young children. She writes about the miserable side to being pregnant, giving birth, and not getting enough sleep. She talks about deciding to have a second child, and the adjustment needed to cope with having two children rather than one. It's an incredibly informative book, and I think it would be a very reassuring read for mothers of young children. However, although I might have kids sometime in the next few years, I'm not at that point yet. While it was very educational to read as it went into aspects of parenthood that I didn't know anything about before, or had never even considered, I didn't find it as engaging to read as I think I will in a few years time when I'm expecting a child. I'll definitely be keeping this on the shelf until then, though, because I do think it will be very reassuring and useful when I reach that stage in my life. 7/10.

Read before getting pregnant.
I had two sons 1 year apart 37 years ago and I am still trying to lose the weight, drinking cold coffee and not sleeping throughout the night!!! Sarah's funny book shows us we are not alone out there!! Yes, the kids take over but we still have legal rights, feelings and a future!:):):)

Brilliant book. Is brings us all the laughter and all the tears of real motherhood. Made me feel much better about the job I was doing looking after my own kids and to stop comparing myself to 'perfect parents'. All newbie parents should read! :)
