The only screen protector I've ever installed properly, works fine
Firstly, just follow the instructions folks. I read them twice and had no problem installing it correctly, letting it sit overnight, waiting another day or two for all the micro-bubbles to fade out, and promptly damaging it with a weird incident at work 3 days after I applied it (which saved an ugly-ass scratch). Everything happens for a reason, I guess.Secondly, nothing is ever perfect. In the world of screen protectors, some people will argue about Corning's Gorilla Glass, or the magical aura of nonsense around iPhones, that they may not even be needed. I throw mine in a felt-lined pocket of a backpack, my back jeans pocket (where I might sit on it, with car keys, or change), anywhere I can find a spot it fits in my Jeep, the same in any rental, an airport, face up or face down on my desk at work or home, charger, conference room table, my friend's kids hands, the counter playing music while cooking at my girlfriend's place or just about any other surface. Sometimes it's a coaster for my beer. Stuff happens. I'd rather peel off a damaged $7 piece of plastic and replace it with a $7 piece of plastic than have annoying scratches on white-background screens when I'm texting someone for a year or two.Third, I applied mine in the bathroom with no fans on, since I read steamy rooms weigh down air particles -- and I take hot showers like every other mouth breathing human. Washed my hands, wiped the phone, liberally applied the included spray to the protector and my hands and the phone's screen (Pixel 2 XL), lined it up proper, pressed a finger down on the protector and forced excess liquid out with the spudger jawn. The screen moved a ton; I readjusted it and kept working at it, fine tuning its exact position. I'm guessing any particulate would get pushed out in this process since I ended up with a near-professionally installed screen, and I've f@#*(% this up once or nine times before on other phones. When it was set perfectly enough for my probable future OCD to turn away from millimeter-level imperfections, I held it level, walked it back to set it down on my desk, and left it until the next day.I did re-apply the liquid (on the edges since the screen is curved) the following day and used my fingers to gently rub the plastic down flush just in case (is this necessary? doubtful). After I was content 24 hours later, I did one last sweep with the spray bottle, cleaned it up, threw on a thin hard case, and that's that. A few weeks later all is well.Looks fine, protected it from sure damage already, and I'll spend $7 if I need another one down the road. However, since it's only been a few weeks... I suppose we'll see if it doesn't do well enough to hold up to a scathing negative review a year from now.

Plastic film: One of the only options you'll find for the Pixel 2 XL
Pros:Stays on wellAdheres to edges without issueNot likely to get marked upCutout fits screen wellCons:Expensive for what you getMessy and difficult application processLess protection than with a glass protectorOnly one piece of film in boxI've always used glass screen protectors and was disappointed at the difficulty I had in finding one with good reviews for my Pixel 2 XL. I ended up deciding to give a plastic film protector a try. In some ways it is doing better than expected but I still can't give this top marks. The application process is a huge pain. In addition to the usual screen cleaning before application, you also have to spray a bunch of solution and apply the protector wet. You then have to squeegee the extra moisture off, which wouldn't be a big deal if not for the fact that the film slides around. The dryer it gets the less it moves but I had to pull it off and reapply it multiple times since it kept slipping. In doing so, motes of dust managed to get under the film.I was also concerned at the rainbow effect on application but found that it went away after everything had fully dried. The recommendation is to let the film fully dry before using your phone but they say 12-24 hours so you'd need to apply it before bed. I used my phone much earlier than that without any issues, however. The plastic film is nowhere near as smooth as a glass protector so you have to get used to your finger not gliding across the screen like it normally would. The difference is also noticeable when you have light reflect off the screen as you can see the texture, although this effect is not noticeable if there is no glare.I will give the film credit in that there have been no issues with the sides/edges peeling up. I was concerned about this but they adhere to the curve without issue.I have not dropped my phone in the time since I've had the film on so I have no idea how it will react compared to a glass protector. On the plus side, in the month or so that I've had it on I see no difference in the protector (i.e. no visible scratches). The fact that you only get a single piece of film for nearly $8 makes no sense to me. The film is clearly cheaper than a glass protector so why this product is more expensive is beyond me. The fact that so many of us make mistakes when applying screen protectors means that products like these should always come with at least two. I understand that they also package in a little spray bottle, squeegee and the like but there is no reason that they can't throw in an extra piece of film or two to justify the relatively high price. In summary, this is a viable option to consider if you want a screen protector for your Pixel 2 XL, largely because there are so few decent options on the market. If you don't want to deal with the dot matrix on many other Pixel 2 XL screen protectors, this may be a good fit for you. If you are easily frustrated when applying protectors, you might want to steer clear. The film seems to provide a moderate level of protection and doesn't overly impact visibility on the screen. Let's hope that someone is able to produce a screen protector for the Pixel 2 XL that is easier to apply, is less visible and provides protection that inspires more confidence.

Update - Customer Service Saved The Day!!
UPDATE - When I reported the issue, customer service contacted me within an hour and promptly offered to send out a replacement. They indicated that maybe it was me or maybe that in some very rare cases there can be a defective screen protector. They just said that they wanted to make it right and that I should receive the replacement in about 5 days or so.Previous - I cleaned my screen with the same micro-fiber cloth that I have used for years. Now I have a big scratch on the film (I hope it's the film). Had to remove and replace it. This time I went back to Skinomi.ORIGINAL - I have tried several screen protectors and I have come to the conclusion that Film works better than tempered glass because of the curved screen of the Pixel 2 XL. I have also used the Skinomi film and at this point I believe that Armor Suit is a little bit better. One factor is that Armor Suit includes a rubber squeegee. I believe that this does a much better job than wrapping the micro-fiber cloth around a credit card. After about 2 months with the Skinomi the film started to lift on the middle right of the screen. To be fair, I have not used the ArmorSuit for 2 months, so if it also starts to lift, I will come back and update my review. At this point it is just a slight nod to Armor Suit.
