Brilliant, exactly how I remembered it
I purchased this DVD collection and really wasn't sure it would be as good as I remembered the series from the 1970's. I am so happy I did. Perfect quality, sound and stays true to the books. Don't hesitate if you are thinking of buying it - well worth every penny, speedy delivery and well packaged. Perfect viewing for these cold, wet, dark days.

Still the best
Loved it. It is still the best production of Poldark. Angharad Reece as Demelza was an utter delight.

Great television
The original and best version of Poldark. Classic television and splendid performances from Robin Ellis, Angharad Rees, Ralph Bates and Jill Townsend . The supporting cast is particularly strong, with characters like Judd Paynter, Caroline Penvenen and Dr Dwight Enys brilliantly portrayed by excellent actors. Wonderful stuff!

It’s old fashioned
Remember it’s filmed in the 70s so it’s old fashioned but good

A Cornish Saga at the end of the 18th Century
The 1975 Poldark series is a must for lovers of Cornwall and protracted family sagas. The setting at the end of the 18th Century in Cornwall is full of tension, with the impending war with France and the harsh realities of society in those days. The social injustices, mining and the life of the poor compared to the rich all feature strongly in the series and make the story far more than just a dramatic tale of two characters at loggerheads. It is also not just a black and white story of good versus evil, or of humanity against profit. The good have their flaws and the baddies have their good points, although generally the distinction is clear and good finally triumphs over bad. Although the actions of the main characters, and Poldark in particular, often strain the viewer's credibility, the story holds together and is full of suspense. Worth watching several times to ensure catching everything on offer. In my opinion, the casting of the old version is better than the much-vaunted new filming.

Simply The Best
Chose to keep the original version of Poldark, because the acting, direction and accuracy with regard to script adhering to Winston Graham's books, was an unbeatable combination. There have been other versions, including the most recent one, but some characters were removed or their role in the stories reduced, not to mention whole episodes which deepened the reader's knowledge of character, motives etc. seemed to have been deleted. I do realise that the original series was several volumes thick ,but in my view they were all totally justified. What the viewer gets is simply the best. Sad to think that so many of the original cast are no longer with us.

It's poldark no need to say much more I remember the whole family sitting down eagerly waiting for it every Sunday night. Simply a wonderful story and great to resist after watching the new one.

Better than the 2015 version
Series 1+2 = 32 episodes - that's a lot of enjoyment! Better dialog than the 2015 version; it will move you more. The 2015 version is amazing, but the 1975 version is actually better and makes me want to watch it again as I get into the final episodes.

Corn-ish pasty
I found this set very enjoyable. Having said that, the decision to run episodes together without a break on each DVD, and, apparently, some cuts, mean that the narrative sometimes seems oddly paced - weeks or months can have passed between scenes, and while some storylines are allowed to build, others end abruptly or fail to develop momentum. Overall, though, it holds the attention : Robin Ellis is suitably dashing - sometimes literally - as Ross, Angharad Rees is a fiery Demelza, Ralph Bates' George Warleggan is wonderful as the JR Ewing of Cornish banking, and who could resist Christopher Biggins as an ambitious and over-sexed cleric ? Worth watching ? That it be !

poldark

Original "Poldark" Rocks!
The Original "Poldark" with Robin Ellis in the lead is absolutely fabulous! I watched this series twice on PBS when it originally aired, and bought the books that were out at the time. It is "prettier" than the new one, and has more dialogue rather than just scenery, although it has lovely scenery as well. I recommend it highly. So glad I don't have to watch it on the many videotapes I made from tv, which have lessened in quality. Get it now if you love English period drama!
